How To Do Outline of a Paper

Purpose The purpose of the outline is to plan the construction and organization of the paper.

Students should decide where in the paper they will use the citations (info. from sources).

How to do Outline Use basic outlining techniques ~ organize using any combination on the following format:

I. Introduction
There are many ways to introduce your topic including but not limited to: telling a story, giving an example, definition or as most will do, a general overview.

Be sure the last sentence of your introduction is a Thesis Statement , which organizes and gives an overview of your paper.

II. First topic A. Introduce in your words ~ citation 1 Explain in your words

B. Introduce in your words~ citation 2 Explain in your words

III. Second topic A. Introduce in your words~ citation 3 Explain in your words

B. Introduce in your words ~ citation 4 Explain in your words

IV. Discuss third topic Introduce in your words ~citation 5 Explain in your words V. Conclusion in your words

Use proper indented margins with subordinate ideas ** Indicate location of the 5 specific sources in your outline**
