Just pick one of movie genre, like horror or thriller. Indonesian and American have their own characteristic in story and the main purpose. Indonesian
In Indonesian horror movie it mainly show ghost usually kuntilanak or pocong as the main character. The story usually about a revenge of the late dead body (usually because of pregnancy before married), so their soul roaming around to scare everyone around them.

American
In american horror movie, many of them have unique twist in the end of story. The story dont end like we expect, and usually it dont tell about ghost which roaming aroud, but it usually tell about a supranatural power which connect to unexpected world.

For the example I will compare the plot one of Indonesian horror movie Beranak Dalam Kubur with one of American horror movie Drag Me to The Hell

Beranak Dalam Kubur Main Plot The story is about Jessy (Adhitya Putri), Jovan (Revand Narya), Titaz (Dinda Kanya Dewi), Kaila (Shalvynne), dan Brian (Siran), students from faculty of medical. One they do a practice in mortuary. In mortuary, they meet several strange things, ghost show up from this point.

The ghost roaming around because of revenge of their late body.

Drag Me to The Hell Main Plot loan officer Christine Brown (Alison Lohman), who tries to impress her boss by refusing to extend a loan to a gypsy woman by the name of Mrs. Ganush (Lorna Raver). In retaliation, Ganush places a curse on Christine that, after three days of escalating torment, will plunge her into the depths of Hell to burn for eternity.

The development of movies depends on technology and methods when producing movies. The development of technology have some effects on methods in producing movies. The technology becomes more modern than before, so the methods which are used for producing movies also becomes more modern for each era.

United States movies are usually called by hollywood movies. The goal of the movies are not only for entertaining viewers but also as a media of communication to the viewers.

In producing US movies, there is a Montase technic that relates the emotion of viewers with the movies.
The viewers can accept or reject the emotion of movies, so they are also involved in producing movies.

The most characteristic in 1970s was a merged themes in a movie. It made the movie became more interesting. The plot of the movie was more dynamic and the ending was unpredictable. The promotion of US movies was very wide and the quality of movies were already good. In 1980s, hollywood movies were not popular like the years before because many of studio bankrupted. Nowadays, hollywood movies are popular again because of the newest technology that make hollywood movies become better and interesting to watch.

The first Indonesian movie is produced in 1926 didnt come out with voice, while the other countries already produced movies with voice. The title of the movie is Loetoeng Kasaroeng which is produced by NV Java Film Company. There is Festival Film Indonesia that support Indonesian movies to become more popular.

In 1980s, Indonesian movies is in bad condition. Indonesia could not compete with import movies.
The other problems are such as fund, human resource, and governments rules. The local movies started to be displaced by foreign movie. The themes of the local movies also became boring and just aiming to get profit without caring about the quality of movies.

However in other side, there were digital cameras which produced some independent movies.
Although there were some amateur movies, but there were also many movies which had a good cinematography. Nowadays, Indonesian movies are in good condition. They have good qualities and make many people interest to watch them.

Technology is very important for movies.

In every movies made there are some sort of technology that backing up the quality Movies.
From graphic enhancing to sound and music improver have important role to produce a great quality movies.
