DEFINITION

Mental health refers to a broad array of activities directly or indirectly related to the mental well-being component included in the WHO's definition of health: "A state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease".

DEFINITION
It is related to the promotion of well-being, the prevention of mental disorders and the treatment and rehabilitation of people affected by mental disorders.

MENTAL HEALTH ACT, 1987 and 2012


The new Mental Health Care Bill 2012 marks a complete shift from the existing Mental Health Act1987 from viewing persons with mental disabilities as persons requiring institutionalisation, to persons with autonomy, equal recognition of their rights and full legal capacity.

SCREENING
Patients in high risk groups : With significant illness: diabetes, CV disease, COPD, Stroke Patients with other mental health problems like dementia Patients with a history of relationship difficulties: physical ,sexual or emotional abuse
