Tourism Statistics

Inbound Tourism

Tourism contributed over 5 percent of Spain's economy or GDP in 2012 and provided around 900,000 jobs, according to Euromonitor The number of international tourist arrivals in August rose to 8.3 million.

Those visitors spent a total of 40.4 billion euros ($54.6 billion), up 7 percent from 2012.

Outbound Tourism

What the Government is doing?

To diminish seasonal variations in tourism, a project called Turismo Senior Europa aims to increase Spains winter tourism by showcasing the low-season potential of Spanish destinations. The aim is to tap into a target public of over 100 million EU citizens in the 5575 age bracket, 50 percent of whom have never travelled outside their home countries.
This will be the driving force behind a revitalization of the low season and an improvement of the sectors profitability and sustainability.
