Four Cornerstones of Fish!

Be present Play

Choose your attitude

Make their day

4 Concepts of the FISH! Philosophy

1.Be there Its about being totally focused on the moments and on the person or task with which you are engaged. When we are fully present with our customers and with each other, we are listening deeply and important opportunities do not escape us.

1 BE THEIR
Listening is a big part of being their, but its more than that. Too often we listen like we are in debate: Our minds are focused only on gathering information for a brilliant comeback but its difficult to hear what he is saying if our minds are stuck on what we want to hear. Being truly present means suspending judgment while you are listening.

4 Concepts of the FISH! Philosophy

1. Play

is synonymous with work. Its about

having fun, enjoying yourself, being spontaneous and creative. Life is too short to spend it frown and FISH! brings a smile to your face!

4 Concepts of the FISH! Philosophy

1. Play It is not a specific game or activity. It is a state of mind thats bring new energy to the task at hand and speaks creative solution.

Happy people treat others well Fun leads to creativity

Time passes quickly

Work becomes a reward & not just a way to rewards

4 Concepts of the FISH! Philosophy

2. Make their day Its about doing something special for

your customers and co-workers. When you make someones day, you have given them a special gift they wont soon forget. It feels good to give it.

2.Make their Day
Make their day can be a big production giving a present, taking someone out to dinner but it doesnt have to be. It might be simple as holding open a door for someone, asking about a persons family, saying thanks. It might mean telling a friend, from your heart, how much you appreciate all they do for you. It moves past just being civil or pleasant its taking that extra step you didnt have to take. And that makes all the difference.

Make their day!

Look for as many ways as possible to create great memories

Involving others & working to make their day provides a constant flow of positive energy.

4 Concepts of the FISH! Philosophy

4.Choose your attitude

Its about accepting full responsibility for all
of our choices, even our attitude at work. A positive attitude is a decision we make, moment to moment.

4.Choose your attitude
Choosing your attitude is not always putting on a happy face or feeling pressure to adopt the outlook thats officially acceptable. Sometimes angry or sad are whats called for. Thats why choosing your attitude is about being aware of what your attitude is, and that it does affect you and others. Once you are aware of the impact, you may view your attitude differently, even if the situation or person that upset you hasnt changed. Then you can ask yourself, Does my attitude help me or others? Is it helping me be the way I want to be?

Choose your attitude

Your attitude is your reaction to what life hands you, and

ONLY YOU CAN CHOOSE THAT REACTION

Be IT

As you enter this place of work, please choose to make today a great day. Your colleagues, customers, team members, and you yourself will be thankful. Find ways to play. We can be serious about ourselves. Stay focused in order to be present when your team members most need you. And should you feel your energy lapsing, try this sure fire remedy: Find someone who needs a helping hand, a word of support, or a good ear,--and make their day.

Our Workplace

CRITICISM
In a video on YouTube, "Pike Place Hates FISH! Philosophy", a Pike Place Market employee informs his interviewer that the FISH! philosophy does not represent Pike Place, stating, "The guys that work here don't actually like the FISH! videos." The employee states that they "put on a show" for the maker of the FISH! video for three days, and implies it's not possible to work all year round in such a way. Some employees find these techniques ridiculous and demeaning. They contend that the idea of 'choosing your attitude' is naive and can be alienating for those with mental health problems such as depression, for whom a negative attitude is an affliction rather than a straightforward choice.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has.
