Learning method: Lectures Group activities Presentation & Discussion

Class will be divided into 4 groups; each group will be considered as a community assessment team The team should analyze the community situation based on a set of data (read the study case in your module) The team should follow step-by-step manual of community based health assessment by completing worksheets provided (the worksheets will be distributed to class everyday) After complete the worksheet, each group will present their findings and it will be followed by a discussion (see schedule)

Introduction Lecture (1st day):

Community Dx Process The tools: epi-demo-statistic Action Plan Design

Group Discussion (2nd-3rd days):

Determine the diagnosis and action plan based on

a given set data

Class Discussion Wrap up Module Exam

Class and group attendance is a compulsory Evaluation are based on:

Participant activities (value: 10%) Group work and outcome (value: 20%) Module exam (value: 70%)

Understand the concept and the aim of community diagnosis Understand the process of community diagnosis

Community diagnosis concept:

The definition and aim The community diagnosis cycle

Community diagnosis process:

The process Determine data needed & source of information

Determine community diagnosis

Analyzing data Determine health priorities Determine risk factor and community level indicator

The foundation for improving and promoting the health of community member The role: to identify the health problem and factors that affect the health of population and determine the availability resources within the community to adequately address these factors

Objective examination

What? Where? When? Why? How?

Chief complaint: subjective complaint

What is the disease? Prompt treatment? Patient expectation: complaint relief, back to normal function, no side effect, Affordable treatment etc

Writing prescription

Medical intervention
Examine risk factors, patient health behavior and capability

Ensure prompt treatment, affordability, suitability, continuity of treatment

Who, Where, When?

Health issues, needs, demands

What is appropriate, feasible health program

Fulfilling need and demands, health status improvements

INDIVIDUAL & COMMUNITY Subjective and Objective data Primer and Secondary data What is the health problem Why: what is the risk factors How is the resources capability Problem solving? Health status improvement? What is the intervention program

1.

Establishing a community Assessment team 2. Analyzing the county health data book 3. Collecting community data

4) Combining county health statistic with community data

5. Choosing health priorities 6. Developing the community health action plan 7. Measuring environmental and policy changes 8. Creating the Community Assessment Document

Comparing with national or provincial data Understanding the local pattern Inferring the impact on community health

List of health problem and its risk factor

List of community strength

List of problem? Related problem or independent problem? What is the underlying problem? Can we address all the problem? Choosing health problem priority

Magnitude: how many persons does the problem affect, either actually or potentially? Seriousness of the consequence: what degree of disability or premature death occur because of the problem? What potential burden to your community result, such as economic or social burden? Feasibility of correcting: Is the problem amenable to intervention? What technology, knowledge or resources are necessary to effect a change? Is the problem preventable?
