IDM+ General Features

22-bit analogue resolution providing extra dynamic range to provide high accuracy for
monitoring load currents as well as fault currents best in class. Fault recording sampling rates selectable up to 512 samples per cycle equivalent to 25.6KHz, 12.8KHz, 6.4KHz, 3.2KHz and 1.6KHz on 50Hz systems. Can monitor high

frequency transients from FACTs devices and switching capacitor banks.

Disturbance monitoring sampling rate selectable up to 2 samples per cycle equivalent to 6.25Hz, 12.5Hz, 25Hz, 50Hz or 100Hz on 50Hz systems. Exceeds US NERC requirements for system monitoring and allows accurate analyses of all system disturbances. Extremely high accuracy 0.1% on voltages and 0.1% on currents to meet PMU and PQ requirements Three models 9, 18 or 36 analogues, and 32, 64, 128 digital inputs for flexible deployment in bay based or centralised arrangements.

IDM+ General Features

Linux Operating System

Full solid state device no fans and industrial compact flash (4 or 8Gbytes). Extreme reliability to match todays industry requirements.

Ethernet, serial communication and USB port available as standard - USB can be used to update device configuration, upgrade firmware or download data to a standard mass memory accessory (memory stick or portable hard drive).

Fast cross triggering over the network such that IDM+ devices on the same subnet can all record synchronised data to emulate a much larger recorder.

Clock synchronisation based on standard NTP protocol and separate 1pps. Slave units can be time locked to another IDM+ designated as master or an external source. IRIGB and IRIGJ can also be used if required.

Impedance based distance to fault results displayed on MMI display

A feeder is a 3 phase current group (3I) and a busbar is a 3 phase voltage group (3V). Other channels are classed stand alone Up to 2 x busbars and 3 x feeders can be set on 9 analogue channels and grouped into 2 circuits Cabling can be 3U3I or 3U3I3I (one or two circuits)

Calculated Channels
The FR engine calculates rms magnitude, phase angle, sequence components from each 3 phase group, single phase and three phase power from each circuit and system frequency.

IDME Upgrade
IDME(evolution) is an upgrade path from an IDM to the next generation fault monitoring family from Qualitrol IDM T3 and T5 fault recorders can be upgraded to the IDME versions. Aim is to upgrade whilst maintaining existing field wiring

Upgrade

Back to Index

IDME Upgrade
Upgrade from IDM to IDME involves replacing the following boards
CPU board Analogue board Digital (event) board Front panel MMI
VT/CT Boards and PSU retained

Re-calibration will be required after the upgrade

T3 CPU,Digital & Analog boards changed

Back to Index

IDME Upgrade improve CT performance

For increased linearity and accuracy on current channels a Taehwatran TS16L split core CT can be fitted over the primary conductor and connected to the rear green connector bypassing the internal CT.

The original IDM internal CT can be left in service but not used no need to touch the original CT cabling
Back to Index

IDME Upgrade alternative CT replacement

A project will be started to fit an IDM+ CT to an IDM VT / CT board.

This will provide improved CT performance without the need for external split core CTs BUT will require that the CT and VT wiring is disconnected from the rear of the IDM whilst the VT/CT board is modified or replaced. Some Utilities are OK with this arrangement as they can use test switches to short the CT wiring and can upgrade without the need for a line outage.
