How Does Fire Work?

What are the ELEMENTS OF FIRE?

Fire can not occur unless all the 3 elements are present :

: something to burn : to sustain combustion (to keep the fire going) : gas, electricity

What are the COMMON CAUSES OF FIRE?

Smoking and matches Electrical fires (wiring, panel, boards, fuse boxes) Heating and cooking fires (chimney, coals, overheated equipment) Careless storage of flammable materials.

How Can We Prevent Fire?

Report tampered with or faulty detectors Dispose of cigarettes in ashtrays only Empty ashtrays in metal bins only Keep matches out of reach of children Do not store matches near flames Do not overload electrical sockets Report immediately any damaged sockets Switch off appliances after use Do not leave fryers or oil/cooking unattended Check the room before leaving it. Always be on the lookout for hazards and fire.

Fire Reporting Procedure

1. Dial 4444 , report all information requested

When reporting a fire:

- Remain calm and speak clearly - Give the exact location of the fire - Give the telephone number from which you are calling - State if people are in danger - Repeat the message to the operator - Ask the operator to repeat the message to you, if possible

After alerting the operator, their response will depend upon the nature and extend of the fire
