ADDRESSing the DRESSing

The line of demarcation between those who serve God and those who serve Him not , is ever to remain distinct.

The difference between believers and unbelievers should be as great as the difference between light and darkness.

When God's people take the position that they are the temple of the Holy Ghost, Christ Himself abiding within, they will so clearly reveal Him in spirit, words, and actions (dressing) , that there will be an unmistakable distinction between them and Satan's followers.

The line of demarcation between him that serveth God and him that serveth Him not is becoming more and more distinct. This is as the Lord designs it should be. . An active, living faith distinguishes the people of God from the sinful, who by their rejection of Christ bear continually to the world a plain testimony:

I will not wear the yoke of Christ; I will not learn His lessons of meekness and lowliness of heart; I will have my own way, and live in this world a life of pleasure. Many need instruction as to how they should appear in the assembly for worship on the Sabbath. They are not to enter the presence of God in the common clothing worn during the week. All should have a special Sabbath suit, to be worn when attending service in God's house.

While we should not conform to worldly fashions, we are not to be indifferent in regard to our outward appearance.

We are to be neat and trim, though without adornment. The children of God should be pure within and without. {6T 355.2}

What does the Bible say about makeup?

(Ezekiel 23: 40, 45, Jeremiah 4:30, 2 Kings 9:22, 30)

In the texts from Ezekiel above, makeup is judged as a connection to the manner of adultery. In other words, makeup is used to entice all who are in the view of those who wear it, whether or not it is your husband or wife. Many may not wear it for this purpose, but this is the nature of this type of adornment whether you are sincere or not.

In the Jeremiah text above, it is noted that makeup is used to make thyself fair (more attractive) This denotes that it is about self (vanity), which is idolatry (self
Worship).

God is more concerned with our characters than this type of adornment. See 1 Peter 3:3, 4. In the 2 Kings texts above is it noted that the wicked queen Jezebel adorned herself with makeup. Any sincere Christian woman would not want to imitate Jezebels example. It is also very unhealthy

Specific ingredients in make up results in swelling, itching, or blisters . Some of these types of reactions are most commonly caused by things like fragrances or preservatives in makeup 5. Scientists have only "improved" upon all of the chemicals used in our beauty products, making the particles both smaller and stronger. This means they're more easily absorbed into the skin and past the protective layers that once served as a barrier to these toxins.

ALL WHO ARE SUPPORTING MAKE UP

Ladies may resort to COSMETICS to restore the tint of the complexion, but they cannot thus bring back the glow of healthful feelings to the heart. That which darkens and makes dingy the skin also clouds the spirits and destroys cheerfulness and peace of mind.--H. R. {HL 191.1}

498. Many are ignorantly injuring their health and endangering their lives by using COSMETICS. . .

When they become heated, . . . the poison is absorbed by the pores of the skin, and is thrown into the blood.
Many lives have been sacrificed by this means alone.--H. R. {HL 189.2}

Talc- found in Makeup, eye shadow, and blush, . It is known to act as a human carcinogen and has been directly linked to ovarian cancer. It can also, when inhaled, lead to the formation of lung tumors.
Phthalates are a group of endocrine-disrupting chemicals that are found in cosmetics like nail polish and in synthetic fragranceboth perfumes and fragrance ingredients in other cosmetic products. Phthalate exposure has been linked to early puberty in girls, a risk factor for later-life breast cancer. Some phthalates also act as weak estrogens in cell culture systems. Lead Lead may be a contaminant in over 650 cosmetic products, including sunscreens, foundation, nail colors, lipsticks. Lead is a proven neurotoxin, linked to learning, language and behavioral problems. It has also been linked to miscarriage, reduced fertility in men and women, and delays in puberty onset in girls.

And when thou art spoiled, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothest thyself with crimson, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, though thou rentest thy face with painting, in vain shalt thou make thyself fair; thy lovers will despise thee, they will seek thy life. (Jeremiah 4:30)

2 Corinthians 6:17

"Fashion loads the heads of women with artificial braids and pads, which do not add to their beauty, but give an unnatural shape to the head. The hair is strained and forced into unnatural positions, and it is not possible for the heads of these fashionable ladies to be comfortable. The artificial hair and pads covering the base of the brain, heat and excite the spinal nerves centering in the brain. The head should ever be kept cool. The heat caused by these artificials induces the blood to the brain. The action of the blood upon the lower or animal organs of the brain, causes unnatural activity, tends to recklessness in morals, and the mind and heart is in danger of being corrupted. As the animal organs are excited and strengthened, the moral are enfeebled. The moral and intellectual powers of the mind become servants to the animal." (The Health Reformer, October 1, 1871, paragraph 9)

The Body the temple of God. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

God requires the body to be rendered a living sacrifice to him, not a dead or a dying sacrifice. The offerings of the ancient Hebrews were to be without blemish, and will it be pleasing to God to accept a human offering that is filled with disease and corruption?
He tells us that our body is the temple of the Holy Ghost; and he requires us to take care of this temple, that it may be a fit habitation for his Spirit. The apostle Paul gives us this admonition: "Ye are not your own; for ye are bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's." [1 COR. 6:19, 20.] All should be very careful to preserve the body in the best condition of health, that they may render to God perfect service, and do their duty in the family and in society. {CTBH 52.3}

It is as truly a sin to violate the laws of our being as it is to break the ten commandments. To do either is to break God's laws. Those who transgress the law of God in their physical organism, will be inclined to violate the law of God spoken from Sinai.

"Sisters who were once plain in dress are now conforming to worldly fashion. God expects his commandment-keeping people to be distinct from the world, but in many instances the line of demarcation is hardly discernible."

Why Do So Many 'Born-Again, SpiritFilled' Women Show Off Cleavage in Church?

Satan is constantly devising some new style of dress that shall prove an injury to physical and moral health; and he exults when he sees professed Christians eagerly accepting the fashions that he has invented.

Why Are We Copying The Fashions of the World?

For what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? (2 Corinthians 6:14)

"It is true today that the corsets and dresses of most women are worn too tight for the proper action of the vital organs. The lungs, heart, and liver are burdened in their work. Every article of clothing upon the person should be worn so loose that, in raising the arms, the clothing will be correspondingly lifted by the action. ~The Health Reformer, February 1, 1877

God views a dress reaching the knee as an extreme short dress My views were calculated to correct the present fashion, the extreme long dress, trailing upon the ground, and also to correct the EXTREME SHORT DRESS, REACHING ABOUT TO THE KNEES, which is worn by a certain class. I WAS SHOWN that we should shun both extremes. By wearing the dress reaching about to the top of a woman's gaiter boot we shall escape the evils of the extreme long dress, and shall also shun the evils and notoriety of the extreme short dress. {1T 464.1}

"Every Christian woman should dress neatly, simply, and healthfully, whether the world approve or disapprove. This cannot be done in adopting the present style of dress." ibid.

When the Bible says, "And be ye separate" it means to SEPERATE from the world, and all its corrupting influences. Said Christ, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. Those who are attracted to Christ and who live for the future immortal life, will not be slaves of fashion.

In order to secure the most healthful clothing, the needs of every part of the body must be carefully studied. The character of the climate, the surroundings, the condition of health, the age, and the occupation must all be considered.

Every article of dress should fit easily, obstructing neither the circulation of the blood nor a free, full, natural respiration. Everything worn should be so loose that when the arms are raised the clothing will be correspondingly lifted. {Ministry of Healing 293.3}

I beg of our people to walk carefully and circumspectly before God. Follow the customs in dress so far as they conform to health principles. Let our sisters dress plainly, as many do, having the dress of good, durable material, appropriate for this age, and let not the dress question fill the mind. Our sisters should dress with simplicity. They should clothe themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety. Give to the world a living illustration of the inward adorning of the grace of God.--3SM 242 (1897). {LDE88.4} The outside appearance is an index to the heart.--1T 136 (1856). {LDE 89.1}

Many dress like the world in order to have an influence over unbelievers, but here they make a sad mistake. If they would have a true and saving influence, let them live out their profession, show their faith by their righteous works, and make the distinction plain between the Christian and the worldling.

The words, the dress, the actions, should tell for God. Then a holy influence will be shed upon all around them. 4T 634

The idolatry of dress is a moral disease. It must not be taken over into the new life. In most cases submission to the gospel requirements will demand a decided change in the dress. CG 432 Satan wants them to look like the world, and act like the world. He wants to lead them to think theyre on the narrow path while they are actually on the broad road to destruction.

Were the apostle Paul alive, and should he behold women professing godliness with this style of dress, he would utter a rebuke. 1 T 460

Do not, my sisters, trifle longer with your own souls and with God. I have been shown that the main cause of your backsliding is your love of dress. 4 T647
Man is forbidden to give to any other object the first place in his affections or his service. Whatever we cherish that tends to lessen our love for God or to interfere with the service due Him, of that do we make a god. PP 305

Honorable is beautiful in the eyes of God Samuel Dessin "The Reviver" Biblically speaking, if you're not covered adequately, you're naked in the eyes of God. We wear clothes for a reasonwe have SINNED from the beginning! So, by exposing our bodies we are implying that man never sinned.

"Mini clothes are symbolic [a meaning] of those girls who want to SEDUCE a man" Mary Quant, the inventor of the miniskirt. In an interview she was asked what kind of person today's woman wants to be, and she answered, "A sexual creature. She displays her sexuality instead of this coy business of hiding it. Today she dresses to say, 'I am sexy. I like men. I enjoy life.'"

Many women have brushed aside criticism of their short dresses by blaming everything on the dirty old men with their evil thoughts. But is that the basic fault? This is not confined to "dirty old men." Every man, woman, and child in the world has a carnal nature by birth. But the male struggle to keep the thoughts straight is based upon more than the fleshly nature. It is rooted in the fact that God created men with a completely different sexual makeup than women.

God made man in the beginning with a very sensitive sexual nature that could be quickly aroused by the sight of female nudity. Woman, on the other hand, was created with a sexual nature which would not be so easily stirred, especially by sight. She was made to be more responsive to touch and tenderness. Her more subtle sexuality could be drawn out by the physical attentions involved in the conjugal relationship. God never intended for man's sex emotions to be stimulated outside the marriage chamber.

And in order to protect him God placed within the woman a delicate sense of modest reserve, so that she would not expose her body except to her own husband.

The plan was perfect, but it has broken down in one area. Satan has managed to destroy to a very great extent that inherent modesty with which the Creator endowed womanhood. Uninhibited nudity or provocative haft-dress has become the accepted norm of modern fashion. On every side, the Christian, as well as the non-Christian, is forced to look upon scenes of nakedness which are utterly foreign to the original plan of the Creator. Biblically speaking, if you're not covered adequately, you're naked in the eyes of God. We wear clothes for a reasonwe have SINNED from the beginning! So, by exposing our bodies we are implying that man never sinned. Note: This is NOT condemnationIts education.

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (Romans 12:1-2)

Simplicity of dress will make a sensible person appear to the best advantage. We judge of a person's character by the style of dress worn. Gaudy apparel betrays vanity and weakness. A modest, godly person will dress modestly. A refined taste, a cultivated mind, will be revealed in the choice of simple and appropriate attire. {CH 601.2}

WHATSOEVER YE DO, do all to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31 Satan's work is to lead men to ignore God, to so engross and absorb the mind that God will not be in their thoughts.....Satan does not wish the people to have a knowledge of God; and if he can.....confuse the senses of the young that human beings will perish in darkness while light shines all about them, he is well pleased. {RH, March 13, 1900 par. 5}
