Design Approaches of Steam Turbines by BHEL
Industrial Turbines on Building - Block System (Straight flow Turbines)
Centre admission Turbines
Multi-cylinder Reheat Turbines
INDUSTRIAL TURBINES ON BUILDING BLOCK SYSTEM
Turbines to suit varying customer requirements and
parameters for diverse applications
Modular system of turbines for adaptation to Specific
application of Industry without sacrificing economy and
efficiency
Range of Turbines based on 3 principal building - blocks
Front section with industrial steam admission
Centre section with transition/extension sectors
Rear section with exhaust

INDUSTRIAL TURBINES ON BUILDING BLOCK SYSTEM
Centre section
- Blading system can be extended by extensive section
- matching of front section with larger flow sections & transition
section
Front section in two patterns
N - for normal steam inlet conditions upto 100 bar/500C
(5 geometrically graded sizes)
H - for higher inlet steam conditions upto 140 bar/540C
(4 geometrically graded sizes)
Rear section (Exhaust) & Versions
- for normal back pressure upto 20 bar(in 7 sizes)
- for higher back pressure upto 45 bar (in 4 sizes)
- for condenser Turbines ( in 8 sizes)
Centre Admission Turbines
Steam admission through two separate valve blocks
Steam admitted at the centre of the turbine
Outer casing does not come in direct contact with initial
steam
Full admission to control stage is achived by steam
admission from top and bottom without any complicated
castings
Lower pressure drop across labyriuth glands at the front
end
Multi-cylinder Reheat Turbines
Two cylinder design for power outputs over 100MW
First cylinder is a compact horizontally,HP-IP module
with both inlet and IP valves mounted at centre
HP & IP portions are separated by means of labyrinth glands
Second Cylinder is a low pressure single flow type
Steam Parameters
Upto 40MW Conventional Plants - 62 ata, 480C
Upto 80MW Conventional Plants - 86 ata, 510C
For a 50MW CPP - 60 ata, 510C (HP)
Over 100MW - 130 ata, 540C
For a 50MW CPP - 62 ata, 480C
- 60 ata, 510C (LP)
- 60 ata, 510C (LP)

Centre Admission Turbines
Leakage steam from the inner labyvinth between two
groups of stages is fully utilised by subsequent stage
group.
For combined cycle application, the control stage is
dispensed. Stea, is admitted directly from top and
bottom.Injection branch is added for taking in the LP
steam
