Random Acts of Brightness

1300 Greater Clevelanders logged over 696,000 miles this summer in the National Bike Challenge burning 14,530,000 calories and keeping 311,000 pounds of C02 out of the atmosphere

Bike Cleveland was interviewed or mentioned over 40 times by the local or national media

Bronze Bicycle Friendly Community designation earned by Cleveland, Lakewood, and Cleveland Heights from League of American Bicyclists. Launched Ride Together: Greater Clevelands first ever bicycle focused media campaign Biking in Cleveland Guide (authors Julia Kuo and Justin Glanville), available online and soon at 2014 biking events. Rust Belt Battle of the Bikes 1,300 Clevelanders competed in National Bike Challenge. We logged 696,000 miles in just five months, saving over 311,000 pounds of carbon dioxide. 700+ people biked to work through 7 bike-to-work day events, with the Cleveland Bike Rack. Bike Lane Installation on Detroit Ave, Edgehill Rd, and Superior Ave., total 30% increase. Commitment for bike lanes on W. 41st and W. 44th in Cleveland. In partnership with City of Cleveland and YMCA, classified City streets to prioritize bike facilities.

2013 Year in Review


Community conversation & advocacy for bike lanes on Madison Avenue, Triskett Avenue, Denison Avenue, Pearl Road, East 72nd Street and Lakeshore Blvd. Cleveland neighborhood outreach through Bike Fix-a-thons and bike light giveaway events. Fixed 55 bikes and distributed 70 lights to un-lit people on bikes. Countywide complete streets policy and design guidelines to facilitate a countywide approach for better bicycling, in partnership with Cuyahoga County. Completed bike share task force feasibility study and implementation plan for moving the idea forward with RTA and the City of Cleveland. I Bike. I Vote. educated voters on candidates commitment to bicycle facilities and safety. 5 more BikeBox Parking Corrals, unique-to-Cleveland, on-street covered bike parking structures, with LAND Studio. First ever bicycle friendly business designation in Northeast Ohio given to Squire Sanders by the League of American Bicyclists.

These streets can be re-striped similar to Detroit Ave. depending on pavement condition. Implementation will be prioritized based on making key network connections .

Complete and Green Street typology including signed routes, sharrows, bike lanes, protected bike lanes, bicycle blvds, etc. Community meetings will be held to present striping and/or construction plans as streets approach reconstruction/repaving/re-striping
