How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Young adults- Female

The way in which my group showed a representation on young adults in our opening sequence was by our main female character. As we show many of the females features and the main characters face. We wanted our female character to come across and strong and independent We also wanted to use the colour red as it is stereotypically viewed as a womans colour. It can be connoted as passionate but also as danger. By the use of makeup and shoes this will also draw in the female attention and these are interests that they will like.

The theories that this links in with is the male gaze theory, this is due to the male attraction that they get from the feature features. Another theorist that links in with our sequence is Propps theroy of characters. Believing that everyone in media has a set role to play.

For Example
In Salt, Angelina Jolie, plays a strong independent character, where she relies on her actions only. Her character has to battle through many events throughout the film of salt, that she eventually overcomes This shows links towards our opening sequence due to the central female characters It is also because of the dominate mannerism of the female. Another link is the makeup and accessories used within the film and opening sequence.

Age
Blumler &Katz; Diversion, Due to them wanting to escape everyday life. ; Personal identity, Due to woman watching and wanting products in the opening. Barthes theory; Enigma code, as there are puzzles that should be resolved while watching the film

I think that teenagers will enjoy our film due to the stress from their school/ collage/uni life
I believe that adults will like this film due to the modernization twist I also believe that the older generation will watch this film because of they like the thriller genre

Gender
Women will want to watch our film due to the makeup, shoes and clothing used in the opening. Also as the central character is a female. Men will also want to watch our film due to the type of genre and also because of the mental challenge from the film.

For Example
In Brave, although is in a animated film, a strong female character is still shown in the film Both characters challenge through adventures in their films and result in victory. Both the female characters are challenged emotionally and at times break down and reach the end. In brave, the small character is a daughter and aims to save her family and friends, this links in with our sequence as the main female doctor help to save thousands of lives due to an illness that had broken out.

Ethnicity
Our female character is a white British citizen. Middle class as she is a doctor Subverts the stereotype due to doctors predominantly being male Shown as a strong individual woman, stronger then men.
