A sample is a prototype of a product to be manufactured in future course of production.

This department directly coordinates with the merchandising and production department. Sampling is done to see how the product will look when produced in bulk and to check for any discrepancy in the pattern.

This process can be repeated up to 5 times during the different sampling stages.

1.

Proto Sample: It is the first sample made in sampling department. Sampling department makes three proto samples, one for own reference, one for buying house and the other is sent to the buyer for approval. It is not necessary to use actual trims and fabric. This sample is made in the base size only.
Fit Sample: According to the buyer requirement, the proto sample is also considered to be the fit sample which is made in the base size (28 in this case) Size set sample: The buyer specifies the size ratios and sizes. In a size set one sample of each size is made. Mock fabric and trims are used for it.

4.

Sealer sample: It is supposed to be the last sample in which buyer can ask for any alteration. It is the final approved sample by the buyer for production. Two samples are made for this. Both of them are first sent to the buyer. The buyer puts the seal on one and returns it to the factory and the other is kept with him.
Pre-production Sample: These samples consist of all accessories in the garment like buttons, label, zipper, tag, thread, fusing etc. This sample is only for internal purpose and is not sent elsewhere. This is made in the line before starting the bulk production to overcome any problem that could be faced. Top of production/ Shipment sample: To see whether the bulk pieces are coming out alright or not, whether the quality and construction is matching to the sealer sample or not. Vendor always tries to select the best quality pieces to send as TOPs.

Once the style is received form the buyer, samples are sewn, shipped overseas, and a fit session is arranged with a live model that the manufacturer rarely sees. Inaccurate fit forms and lack of communication cause a lengthy approval process. Very rarely, the first sample is selected as the final sample.

The company has to send proto/ fit sample sometimes even up to 5 times to get it approved by the Buyer X. For different styles of the same buyer the entire procedure is repeated mostly because of fit issues and this problem is mostly faced in womens bottom wear. This consumes a lot of time as well as money.

To

reduce the number of times the fit sample is sent to the buyer for approval To reduce the time taken and cost incurred in the sampling stage To increase the overall efficiency of the sampling department

Physical samples take time to deliver and test, and there are errors. With e-fit Simulator, the fit models body can be used on the computer by the patternmaker, manufacturer as well as the buyer. Special software can be used to develop movies and screenshots and these can be reviewed and fit comments be sent back via email. Animation allows us to see fit problems that cant be seen on a static form. Pattern errors can be corrected BEFORE a sample is sewn. This way time, effort and most importantly money is saved.
