Powerful Disease Control

When applied at the appropriate timing, Prosaro offers:
Powerful activity on both leaf and head diseases Preventive and curative action against leaf diseases Strong performance in spring and winter wheat as well as barley

Prosaro is the standard for preventive treatment of scab (Fusarium head blight or FHB), with outstanding foliar disease control.
Reduces scab Suppresses DON levels

Powerful Disease Control

Prosaro stops the penetration of the pathogen into the plant and stops the spread of infection within the plant. As a result, Prosaro inhibits the reproduction and further growth of fungus. Prosaro stops existing fungal development and protects against new infections on the treated plant tissue. It does this without increasing mycotoxin production in grain.

The Presence of DON DON, also referred to as vomitoxin, is a mycotoxin that is sometimes produced in wheat and barley grain infected by scab. Scab is most prevalent when wet weather occurs during the flowering and grain-filling stages of plant development. The occurrence of scab does not automatically mean that DON will be present, but it does increase the odds dramatically.

The Effect of Strobilurins Strobilurins applied after flag leaf emergence may increase DON levels, whereas Prosaro brings DON levels down. Fungicides that contain an active ingredient in the strobilurin class should NEVER be applied to control FHB. This includes products like Headline, Quadris, Quilt and Stratego. Research has shown that strobilurin fungicides can actually increase DON levels in harvested grain. These strobilurin products are very good at controlling foliar diseases of wheat, and if used, should be applied earlier in the season (around Feekes 8flag leaf emergence).

Regulating DON Wheat Recent regulatory changes from the Chicago Board of Trade lowered the acceptable level of DON without price discounts from 3 ppm to 2 ppm. These changes mean that even trace amounts of DON in your fields can have significant impact on the grains marketability.

Barley Tight malt restrictions mean even trace amounts of DON in your fields can have significant impact on barley grains marketability.

Donald J. Reid (ret.), TAMU-C Dr. James S. Swart, Texas AgriLife Extension

Stripe rust conclusions

Begin scouting fields at Feekes Growth Stage 7

Early infections require longer residual activity

Late infections (Feekes GS 10 or later) controlled with single application

Leaf rust conclusions

Typical infections occur later than stripe rust (3 to 4 weeks) Optimal timing Feekes GS 10 to 10.51

Conclusion: Prosaro performed better than anything currently labeled.

Application Recommendations
Why adjust the spray tips?
Dye studies were conducted at the NDSU Langdon Research Extension Center (S. Haley, G. Van Ee, et al.) and SDSU (B. Ruden). Forward-facing nozzles were compared with vertical-oriented nozzles. Approximately 2X amounts of dye were collected on the heads treated with forward-facing nozzles.

Prosaro needs to be on the heads to prevent scab infections. Control of leaf diseases is not compromised.
