Medical Model
Health is the state of being free of signs /or symptoms of disease and illness. The absence of one or more of the five Ds

Death Discomfort Disease Disability Dissatisfaction

If you are not sick or dying, you are considered to be in the best attainable state of health.

Health- Illness Continuum Health is a constantly changing state, with high level wellness and death being on opposite ends of a graduated scale, or continuum.

High Level Wellness

High level wellness refers to functioning to ones maximum potential while maintaining balance of purposeful direction in the environment.

Needs Fulfillment Model


Health is a state in which needs are being sufficiently met to allow an individual to function successfully in life with the ability to achieve the highest possible potential

Role Performance Model

Health is the ability to perform all those roles for which one has been socialized.

Stages of Illness Behavior

SYMPTOM EXPERIENCE
The person is aware that something is wrong. A person usually recognizes a physical sensation, discomfort or limitation in functioning, but does not suspect specific findings.

ASSUMPTION OF THE SICK ROLE

If the signs and symptoms persist and become severe, the clients assume the sick roles. At these point, illness becomes a social phenomenon.

MEDICAL CARE CONTACT


If such condition persists despite home remedies and becomes severe or may require emergency care. The person is motivated to seek professional health advice or services.

DEPENDENT CLIENT ROLE

The client is now dependent on the health care professional for the relief of illness condition and treatment.

RECOVERY AND REHABILITATION

This stage can arrive so suddenly such as when the symptoms appear. In the care of chronic illness it may involve adjustment to a prolonged deviation in health status and abilities of a person.
