A PRESENTATION BY SHRISTI KESHARI

MBA 1ST SEM

DEFINITION
An input device is any peripheral (piece
of computer hardware equipment) used to provide data and control signals to an information processing system .

Input and Output devices make up the

hardware interface.

KEYBOARD

KEYBOARD
The keyboard is a way to input letters or
numbers into different applications or programs. Types of Keys: Alphanumeric keys Function Keys Navigation keys Modifier Keys

Mouse

Mouse
Can be used only with GUI based O.S.

Eg.Windows Used to navigate, open/close files, websites. Main goal is to translate the motion of our hand into signals that the computer can use.

Joystick

Joystick
Used to move cursor from place to place,
and click on various items in programs. Inputs directional data like a mouse. Moves up-down,left-right. Mostly used for playing games.

SCANNER

SCANNER
Used to copy pictures or other things and
save them as files on the computer. A light moves slowly over the surface of the picture or the object to be scanned. The colours of the reflected light are detected and digitised to build up a digital image.

MICROPHONE

MICROPHONE
A microphone, sometimes colloquially called a
mic or mike, is an acoustic-to-electric transducer or sensor that converts sound into an electrical signal. Microphones are used in many applications such as telephones, tape recorders, hearing aids, motion picture production, live and recorded audio engineering, in radio and television broadcasting and in computers for recording voice, VOIP(voice over internet protocol), and for non-acoustic purposes such as ultrasonic checking.

WEBCAM

WEBCAM
Mostly used during long distance chatting. Webcams typically include a lens, an
image sensor, and some support electronics .

Video chat is a good example of positive

use.

Internet privacy is the biggest concern of

webcams and a major negative point .

TOUCH SCREEN

TOUCH SCREEN
A computer display screen sensitive to
human touch. Used with information kiosks, computerbased training devices, and systems designed to help individuals having difficulty using mouse/keyboard.

BAR CODE SCANNER

A bar code scanner
scans a little label that has a bar code on it. The information is then saved on the computer. Bar code scanners are used in libraries a lot.

OPTICAL MARK READER

These scanners are capable of recognizing a type of mark made by pencil or pen. The actual technique used by an OMR device for recognition of marks involves focusing a light on the page being scanned and detecting the reflected light pattern from the marks.
