According to the Indian Penal Code(IPC), the following sections relating to the women violence are defined :
1. Rape (Section 376). 2. Kidnapping and Abduction for specified purpose (Section 363, 373). 3. Homicide for dowry ,dowry deaths or their attempt (Section 302, 304B) 4. Torture both mental and physical (Section 498A) 5. Molestation (Section 354). 6. Sexual harassment (Section 509). 7. Importation of girls upto 21 years of age (Section 366).
According to the 1986 legislation The indecent representation of Women Act in order to prevent the media from misrepresenting the women. An attempt to degrade and discredit women, insult and humiliate them, assassinate the character of women and pursuit them in an indecent manner is declared punishable. The provision of this Act are applicable to all the means of the mass media and also to advertisements, books, land bills, posters etc. Violation of this Act is liable for punishment which amounts to Rs. 2000 and 2 years of imprisonment.
