Head Motion Controlled Wheelchair

Team Members: Sudhanshu Ranjan Dwivedi Prateek Ravat Abhishek Sachan Pramod Khurana Team Supervisor: Ass. Prof. Rohit Kumar

Introduction
Head motion controlled wheel chair is a machine in which we can move the wheelchair by giving the direction from our head and turn the direction of wheel chair through it. After using an accelerometer we are able to move and change the direction of our wheelchair and by the help of the same accelerometer we can also change the speed of the wheel chair. This is a new technology for controlling wheelchair through our head movement. This not only simplifies an arduous task of movement which is routine but also epitomizes the true potential of electronics.

Project Obejectives

To assist severely disabled1 person to control their wheelchair with head movements. To grant the severely disabled person becoming more mobile and enjoy a better life.

1severely

disabled means physically challenge people that cannot use their hands and legs in normal life

Project Features
Tilt up: Move forward Tilt down: Move reverse Tiltl left: Move left Tilt Right: Move right

Wheelchair is moved via head tilts.

Code has to be entered before movement is allowed Code is entered via head tilts: Up, Down, Left, Right

Project Features Cont

Integrated microcontroller intelligence control

Head movements detection & decoded to actual wheelchair motion. Obstacles detection & avoidance through Infra-red sensors. Handling wireless communication between HM(Head movement) controller & base
controller.

Project Features Cont

Wireless communication is used to communicate between HM controller & base controller therefore:

No direct contact between head movement controller and base controller. Less wiring and less messy.

Project Features Cont

Safety features:

Bumper sensors stop when platform hit surrounding objects.

Emergency STOP button useful for emergency cases.

Alternatively wheelchair can be controlled by joystick. Useful for interruption by the training supervisor during the training of using the HMC wheelchair.
