What is
PDHPE and
the Syllabus?
PDHPE stands for : Personal Development, Health and Physical
Education
The syllabus is a prescribed course outline for NSW schools and
teachers
The NSW PDHPE syllabus is designed to encompass all aspects of
an individuals wellbeing, inclusive of social, mental, physical and
spiritual health.
The aim of the syllabus is to assist students with the knowledge
and understanding, skills, values and attitudes that will enable
them to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.
There are areas of PDHPE. One that focuses on the personal
development and healthy aspect (theory) and the other on
physical education (practical).
Why is it so
important?
Promotes physical activity (each child should participate in at least
30 minutes of physical activity a day)
Student are encouraged to understand their own personal
development, movement skills, safety and relationships which are
foundational concepts in the growth of a child.
Students are educated on nutrition which would assist them in
personal health choices and reasons why it is so important to eat
and be physically active in our modern obese society. It sets a
standard and awareness at a young age.
PDHPE promotes decision making. By supplying the vital
information students need to be aware of there physical
surroundings, personal development and types of relationships
they gain self confidence, independence, respect and positive
social interaction with peers.

The development and maintenance of position interpersonal
relationships

The adoption of an active lifestyle
Fundamental movement patterns and coordinated actions of the

Objectives

There are 3 main focal areas: values and attitudes, skills and
knowledge.
Values & Attitudes to development students appreciate of and a
commitment to healthy and social just ways of living
Skills to develop skills in making, communicating and acting
upon health decisions, moving with competence and confidence
and ability to form and maintain positive relationships
Knowledge To develop knowledge and understanding about
enhancing personal and community health and wellbeing as well
as the composition , performance and appraisal of movement.
PDHPE is a vital subject that teaches the fundamental skills of life
such as:
- Communicating skills.
- Decision making skills.
- Interacting skills.
- Moving skills.
- Problem solving skills.

- If not for PDHPE who would teach children these essentials?

importance of PDHPE.
