Quarter 1 midterm

Unit #1
• I think that the most important topic we
covered in general was slavery. Not only
with African Americans but with the Tainos
and how they all suffered. Well in unit 1 we
found out that Columbus was not the first to
visit the indigenous. While he was looking for
gold and spices he ended up taking the
indigenous people as slaves! Most people
are Mestizos because the Spaniards forced
women into marriage. The indigenous
people suffered a lot from depression and
fear and at the same time hatred. They were
tortured and abused. After so many
indigenous people died they ended up
getting African American slaves! They had to
do through something know as the middle
passage and it was devastating. Blacks
ended up working in encomiendas.
Unit #2
• I think that the most important thing we
studied in unit 2 was the Jim crow laws.
This is also know as segregation. Its
important because it caused a lot of
violence and hatred. Once he slaves
were free there was still something bad.
The Jim crow laws made separate
schools, water-faucets, bathrooms, and
other places that would separate whites
and blacks. The things that belonged to
the blacks were always worst then the
whites. For example, a black mans
faucet would only have warm water but a
white mans faucet would have a cooler
the made it cool. While this was going on
many people were protesting.
Segregation ended in 1964 with the civil
rights act.
Unit #3
• I think that the most important thing we
studied in unit 3 was how the Mestizos,
blacks, criollos, and indigenous people
came together and began rebel against
the Spaniards. This is important because
since they come together they managed
to stop the evil Spaniards, it showed that
union can do almost anything. Miguel
Hidalgo led the attack against the
spaniards. The Spaniards found out
about this and he knew he was going to
be arrested so he decided to just charge
to battle. He had just about 100,000
followers and in 1811 he was captured
and killed.(Very similar to the case of Nat
Turner). Even though Hidalgo was killed
it did not end! Others took his footsteps
and they took over.
What is the most important topic of all?

• I think that the most important thing overall would be, slavery in
general.
• When I say slavery I mean indigenous people and African
Americans.
• I think slavery is so important because if it never existed then a
lot more people would get along and segregation would have
probably never taken place.
Leadership
• I think leadership means plenty of things.
• It can mean leading a group or just doing what you got to do to
make places like your community better.
• A leader doesn’t pick sides, a leader brings those sides
together.
