Slang: very informal language that is used esp. in speech by particular
groups of people and which sometimes includes words that are not polite.
Speech community: is a group of people who share a set of norms and
expectations regarding the use of language.
Social class: is used to define groups of speakers that have something in
common.
Speech style: a social feature of language use. The most common
distinction in speech style is between formal uses and informal uses.
Dialect: a form of a language that people speak in a particular part of a
country, containing some different words and grammar, etc.
Social marker: a feature that occur frequently in your speech (or not) wich
marks you as a member of a particular social group, whether you realize it
or not.
Prestige: a way of explaining the direction in which certain individuals
change their speech.
