The Golden Ratio

What is the Golden Ratio?
An example of the golden ratio is when we divide a line into two parts so that that the longer part
divided by the smaller part is also equal to the whole length divided by the longer part.

Which Artists use the Golden Ratio?
The Golden Section was used
extensively by Leonardo Da Vinci.
Observe how all the key
dimensions of the room, the table
and ornamental shields in Da
Vincis The Last Supper were
based on the Golden Ratio, which
was known in the Renaissance
period as The Divine Proportion.

This is The Annuciation, another
masterpiece of Da Vincis. Note that the
brick wall of the courtyard is at exactly
golden ratio proportions relating to the
top and bottom of the painting.

Observe how even the fine
details of the emblems on
the table appear to have
been positioned based on
golden proportions of the
width of the table.
This is the Mona Lisa,
one of Da Vincis best
known masterpieces.
The dimensions of the
painting form a golden
rectangle. The many
proportions of Mona
Lisas body exhibits
several golden ratios as
shown in the picture to
the left.

Another artist named
Michelangelo used the golden
ratio in his painting The
Creation of Adam. On the
ceiling of the Sistene Chapel,
look at the section of the
painting bounded by God and
Adam. The finger of God
touches the finger of Adam
precisely at the golden ratio
point of the width and height of
the area that contains them
both.

Artists that use this
technique:
The French painter Georges
Pierre Seurat is said to have
attacked every canvas by the
golden section. In the examples,
below the horizons falls exactly
at the golden section of the
height of the paintings, as are
other key compositional
elements of the paintings.

In The Sacrament of the
Last Supper, Salvador Dali
framed his painting in a
golden rectangle. Dali
positioned the table exactly
at the golden section of the
height of his painting. He
positioned the two disciples
at Christs side at the
golden sections of the
width of the composition.

Fibonacci Number Sequence
This is how the Fibonacci Numbers
are formed.
The fibonacci numbers are
created using 2 sums of the
previous by adding them
together
Art Work made by Us
This is the artwork made by us.
Observe how the points of the flower
make up a golden pentagon. This art
work started from taking the shape from
the star and use the middle shape
which was the pentagon then we drew a
flower by connecting it to each corner
This another piece of art that we have
created. We have purposely made it
without using the golden ratio. The
dimensions of this piece are not used with
the golden ratio. This means that the
golden technique is not the primary
technique used. The technique used in this
piece of art is called still life. If you look at
it you will think that the circle does have
golden ratio in it as the spiral follows the
circle but when you try to fit the squares in
it wouldn't work.
