It is the process of bringing together physical,
financial and human resources and developing
productive relationship amongst them for
achievement of organizational goals. Organizing as
a process involves:
Identification of activities
Classification of grouping of activities
Assignment of duties
Delegation of authority and creation of
responsibility
Coordinating authority and responsibility
relationships
It is the basic function of management. It
deals with chalking out a future course of
action and deciding in advance the most
appropriate course of actions for
achievement of pre-determined goals.
Planning is necessary to ensure proper
utilization of human and non-human
resources. It is all pervasive, it is an intellectual
activity and it also helps in avoiding
confusion, uncertainties, risks, wastages etc.
Motivation means inspiring, stimulating or encouraging the sub-
ordinates with zeal to work. Positive, negative, monetary, non-
monetary incentives may be used for this purpose.
Motivation and direction channels the organizational behaviour
towards attainment of corporate goals. It involves:
Communication and explanation of objectives to the
subordinates
Assigning the performance standards
Helping the subordinates through proper guidance and
personal touch to meet the standard of performance
Reward for superior performance: both financially and non-
financially (ex. Appreciation letter, etc.)
Fair play in praise and censuring the employees
Management of change through proper communication and
building confidence among different layers of management of
workers.
Coordination throughout directing and motivating process.
Communication is the process of passing information, experience,
opinion, etc., from one person to another. It is a bridge of
understanding. Without communication, organizations would not
function. If communication is diminished or hampered, the entire
organization suffers. When communication is thorough, accurate,
and timely, the organization tends to be vibrant and effective.
Communication is central to the entire management process for
four primary reasons:
Communication is a linking process of management
Communication is the primary means by which people obtain
and exchange information
The most time-consuming activity a manager engage in is
communication
Information and communication represent power in
organizations.

Leadership entails a responsibility to
create opportunity for others. And that
role is largely about seeing the potential
in people and projects, and creating a
context where creativity can happen.
It implies measurement of accomplishment against
the standards and correction of deviation if any to
ensure achievement of organizational goals. The
purpose of controlling is to ensure that everything
occurs in conformities with the standards. It has
following steps:
Establishment of standard performance
Measurement of actual performance
Comparison of actual performance with the
standards and finding out deviation if any.
Corrective action
Creative problem solving is a key skill in every
step of the functions of management, and by
applying critical thinking, managers can
effectively and creatively perform the
functions of management. For achieving the
organizations ultimate goal, management
needs to work creatively in problem solving
and execute the functions.
