A) Mania term used to describe the causes of
World War I. Each letter stands for something

Militarism (army competition)
Alliances (Friendships amongst Europeans)
Nationalism (pride and love of ones country)
Imperialism (competition for colonies and
resources)
Assassination (murder of Archduke
Ferdinand)



II) World War I Alliances

A) Triple Entente France / Britain / Russia

B) Triple Alliance Germany / Austria Hungry /
Italy


Alliances will end up changing, and becoming:

III) World War I Facts

A) Powder Keg term to describe
tension in Eastern Europe. One spark
will cause an explosion

B) Trench Warfare Fighting in
trenches. Led to a stalemate

C) New Military Technology Barbed
wire, airplanes, tanks, submarines / U-
boats, rapid fire machine gun, poison
gas, radio, hand grenades
IV) Treaty of Versailles

A) Treaty of Versailles peace agreement that ended
World War I. Inside the treaty:

1) German & Austrian king must step down from
power

2) Reparations Germany had to pay Allies back for
war damages (30 billion $$$$)

3) Germany has to accept all blame for causing the
war

4) Germany /Austria / Ottoman Empire have to give
up large parts of land

V) League of Nations

disagreements through
discussion.

B) Does not have a military
force, and thus was very

many deaths of Russian peasants

VII) Attempts of Reform in Russia

A) Alexander II emancipates (frees) the serfs & reforms
Russia

B) Terrorists kills Alexander II

C) Alexander III Serfs could not handle freedom, &
takes back all of his fathers reforms.

D) Czar Nicholas II - Instead of a better life, peasants
found long work hours, low pay, unsafe working
conditions, disease, and tenements.

E) Bloody Sunday Czar fired and kill unarmed protestors. Led
to lost of faith in the czar afterwards

VIII Vladimir Lenin
A) Lenin Led Russian Revolution (Bolshevik
Revolution). Had peasants support and followed
Karl Marxs Communist ideas

B) 1917 Workers rally against the government
demanding Peace, Land, Bread

4) Czar Nicholas is executed
