To provide guidance in the setting up of an administrative, legal and
technical system for the control of major hazard installations

It seeks to protect workers, the public and the environment by: preventing
major accidents from occurring at these installations; minimizing the
consequences of a major accident on site and off site

CHEMICAL SAFETY BOARD
The CSB is an independent federal agency charged with investigating
industrial chemical accidents. Headquartered in Washington, DC, the
agency's board members are appointed by the President and confirmed by
the Senate.

Congress designed the CSB to be non-regulatory and independent of other
agencies so that its investigations might, where appropriate, review the
effectiveness of regulations and regulatory enforcement.

the accidents.

The world's leading advocate of fire prevention and an authoritative source
on public safety, NFPA develops, publishes, and disseminates more than
300 consensus codes and standards intended to minimize the possibility and
effects of fire and other risks.

Oil Industry Safety Directorate) is a technical directorate under the
Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas that formulates and coordinates the
implementation of a series of

Self regulatory measures aimed at enhancing the safety in the oil & gas
industry in India.
OBJECTIVE

To formulate and standardize procedures and guidelines in the areas of
design, operation and maintenance as also the creation of new assets with a
view to achieve the highest safety standards in a cost effective manner.

To conduct audits to ensure compliance to such standards.

To maintain continuous follow-up on compliance to OISD audit action
points.

To analyse & investigate incidents happening to the oil & gas industry to
identify root cause and formulate action plan for.
