If you hear the 1

alarm, remain alert and prepare yourself to
evacuate. Our Emergency Respond Team will investigate the
matter, an announcement will be made through the Public
Address System about the alarm.

If you hear the 2
nd
continuous alarm or when directed to
evacuate via the Public Address System, leave your work place
immediately by the nearest emergency exit. Please avoid using
the lift.
What to do in case of fire
Try to remove inflammable material from the fire
zone ( i.e. curtain, table cloth, sheets, paint,
cleaning fluid, gasoline, fuel, etc.)

Attempt to fight the fire with available
extinguisher until help arrives. Do not take risk to
your personal safety.

If personal safety permit, remain near scene,
ready to direct guests and your fellow employees
( if evacuation is ordered ) to the nearest fire exit.

Who is in charge of the Hotel in
a Fire Emergency.
In any fire emergency the senior staff on duty
shall be known as the Manager In Charge (Senior
Security Officer, Asst manager or MOD) on duty
shall be known as the Manager In Charge.

The Manager In Charge will have final and
absolute authority for the hotel, its guests and
employees.

A decision as to whether or not the immediate
area of the fire or entire Hotel is to be evacuated
is the responsibility of the Manager In Charge in
the absence of the General Manager pending the
arrival of the Fire Brigade.

PRINCIPLES
OF FIRE
METHOD OF EXTINGUISHING FIRE

The three principle methods of fire extinguishing
(i.e. the removal of one side of the triangle of combustion)
are as follow:

STARVING i.e. removing material.
SMOTHERING i.e. removing the air (oxygen)
COOLING i.e. removing the heat
STARVING SMOTHERING COOLING
PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE
Most fires are usually the result of carelessness, but if you use your
common sense and bear in mind the following points you will
ensure that risks are reduced to the minimum. If you are unsure of
any of the contents of this manual, please do not hesitate to ask
your Manager about it a doubt dispelled now could save
someones life in the future it might be YOURS!

Do not allow waste paper, etc. to accumulate or leave it lying
around. Put it all in the receptacles provided and replace all bin lids.

Keep fire escape routes clear at all times of equipment and rubbish.

Only smoke in those areas where is permitted and NEVER near
anything flammable.

Ensure your cigarette ends are extinguished properly and do not
empty ashtrays into wastepaper bins.

Store inflammable items in a safe place away from heat.

Always keep fire door closed.

After functions, check that all electrical equipment is turned off and
no cigarette are left smoldering.
Ensure all kitchen appliances and office machines are
turned off before going off duty.

Actively participate in regular fire drills to get used to your
escape plan.

Look out for collection of rubbish n stairs ad corners.

Do not abuse electrical equipment or place things on
heaters.

Dispose oil / paint-soaked materials separately and
immediately.

Maintain kitchen equipment, ventilation filters, etc in a
clean state.

If there are children or toddlers in rooms, place matches or
candles out of their reach.

escapes, elevator etc. Always keep the space near fire hoses,
extinguishers, and etc. free all the time.

USE OF FIRE EXTINGUISHERS

POINT TO REMEMBER
Never attempt to extinguish an electrical or flammable
liquid fire with water.
Never attempt to extinguish a gas fire if the gas flow cannot
be stemmed immediately.
If you find a person on fire, try to get him onto the ground,
and smoother the fire with the fire blanket or roll them on
the ground if there is no blanket available.

Smoke.
Where there is smoke, there may not necessarily be a fire.
Smoke fills the room from ceiling downwards and is always
thinnest at floor level.
Smoke contains poisonous gases and is very irritating to the
eyes and makes it hard to breathe.

So.
Get down on your hands and knees;
If necessary on you stomach;
Breathe the air that is at the floor level;
make your way to the fire stairs and go
down;
Make sure you shut the door behind you.
If trap in the room
You may trapped in the room due to a fire in the corridor;

Ring switchboard on (0) stating your name and location. If you
cannot make contact, hang a white sheet outside the window.

Do not break windows unless you having trouble breathing. Switch
off air conditioning. Fill the bathtub with water. Wet towels and
seal up gaps around doors to prevent smoke entering. Pull down
curtains and thoroughly wet down furnishing using the waste
paper bin.

Tie a wet hand towel or handkerchief over your nose and mouth to
reduce the inhalation of smoke.

Do not open the door until you have felt them and the handle for
heat. If they are cool, stand on the hinge side of the door. Engage
the safety chain, get down low and open door slowly. If smoke and
flame are present, close the door quickly.

Where fire / smoke is becoming too intense, close yourself in the
bathroom. Sealing the gap under the door with a wet towel.. Do not
get in the bath!!! but continue to wet all walls and furnishing
around you.
In case of injury during a fire
Avoid handling affected area.

Apply large amount of cold water by holding the injury
part under a running tap or immersing in a bucket of cold
water this reduce the severity of the burn and relieves
pain.

Chemical burns from acids and alkalis should be flushed
with large amount of running water.

Do not apply any ointment, creams or lotions.

The burn area may be covered with sterile dressing or
clean sheets.

Keep the victim warm and covered to reduce shock.

Reassure the victim and keep them calm.

Should an evacuation be ordered, the assembly area for both
guests and staffs is at the

If you are evacuated, do not just leave the Hotel and go home
you will be presumed missing in the fire and cause needless
delay. You must wait at the assembly point for your name to be
marked off and for further instructions.

No staff is to disclose any information about the fire to any
outsiders / press.

All Pressmen to be referred to the General Manager or Public
Relations Manager or Manager In Charge.

The alternate Crew Leader must take the command and
supervision of respective crew in the absence of the Crew
Leader.

During emergency, staff will take orders from the designated
Crew Leader, regardless of the Leaders actual job title.

Smoke kills more people than flames do.
Let someone know where the fire is located.
Know where the fire stairs and fire equipment is located.
Shut fire doors and windows.
Your own life has first priority, however please try and assist guest
to the fire stars if you can. Guests in rooms should be directed to
the fire stairs, told to go down, not to use lifts and to take their
room key with them in the event of their being cut off and having
to return to their room.
Do not panic, do not run, walk swiftly.
Remain below smoke and assist guest to the fire stairs.
do not use the lifts or allow any other person to use the lifts.
Meet at the assembly point and do not leave until told so.
If trapped, get into a room, let someone know you are there. Place
wet towels around the cracks in the door and wet the floor and
furnishings.
Do not open doors until you have felt them and peeked out.
