Usage of Social Media by Organizations
Over the past few years the use of social media has
increased immensely.
According to PR Weeks social media index 2012 (Magee
and Banham, 2013)
Over 2.7 million people following FTSE 100 Company twitters accounts (an
increase of 131% since a year earlier).
98% increase in Facebook fans of FTSE 100 companies.
105% increase in video views on Youtube of FTSE 100 companies.
Social media is mostly being used to either build up
brand image or interact with customers.

Use of Social Media for Recruitment
Besides interacting with customers, social media is being
used for recruitment and selection.
Employers use social media for several purposes
(Goshime):
Vacancy Announcement
Identifying qualified personnel
Verifying a potential employee
Use of Social Media for Recruitment
Social media has proven to be quite successful for
employers.
According to Jobvites survey (2012):
92% of employers use social media for e-recruiting.
43% of those employers have seen an increase in candidate quality.
71% of employers have successfully hired through social recruiting.
31% of employers have seen an increase in employee referrals.


Tesco
Tesco advertises vacancies on their corporate
website and on LinkedIn.
Makes it easier for them to connect with
potential employees and evaluate their skills
better through their previous contacts and
LinkedIn profile.
Employees Response to Adverts.
Social media has made it easier for
employees to make refined searches for
specific jobs.
Employees can easily apply for jobs.
Employees are informed quickly of vacancies
which they can apply for in just a few
minutes online.
Recommendations for TESCO
TESCO should focus on assessing candidates
online because it gives them a wide range of
employees from which they can find perfect
candidates.
TESCO can assess candidates using different
social networks.
