In retaliation against Gods request made known to him by Moses, the pharaoh ordered worse treatment of the Israelites. People had to suffer more and turned to Moses and Aaron with their complaints. Moses in turn made their complaints known to God. 1.Man easily perseveres in evil inspite of God's request for a change.
2. It is good to bring your needs before God.
The Story: Read Exodus 7:14-11:10
God renewed his commitment to his people. He ordered Moses to go back to the pharaoh and repeat Gods request to let his people go. He gave Moses a sign to prove that he was indeed sent by God. The pharaoh remained obstinate and refused once more. From this point on, God would send Moses to the pharaoh again and again. Each refusal of the pharaoh would be met with a plague until the pharaoh agreed to let Gods people go. The water of the Nile River turned into blood. Red soil mixed with the water of Nile as the water rose. This made the water appear like blood.
Frogs bred as the floodwaters receded. In the past, birds usually kept them in check. But this time the frogs kept on multiplying until they became a real plague.
Swarms of these insects kept on pestering man and beast alike.
Flies buzzed everywhere. We all know how irritating and annoying flies can be; they also carries diseases.
The decomposing carcasses of the dead frogs caused a severe disease carried over to man and beast by the flies. Man and beast were inflicted by boils. This was a plague which often caused great mortality.
Hail consists of small lumps of ice that fall from the clouds. In the past hail seldom occurred in Egypt. But this time a great hail came and destroyed plants and trees.
Great clouds of locust settled on the land eating every green leaf and plant.
Darkness during the day was caused by hot desert sandstorm which burned and blinded everyone. This was the climax of all plagues On the night of the Passover, the angel of death will go down to Egypt to kill the first born of every Egyptians and animals
All these plagues occurred occasionally in Egypt. Some of them do happen even today. The author of the story does not call them miracles but SIGNS. The miracle of it was that all these happened in succession, and forced the pharaoh to grant Gods request to let people go. 1. God is more powerful than any man on earth.
2. God uses natural events and elements to protect and save his people.
3. It is better to do Gods will than to experience the sufferings carried by our disobedience.
4. Most of the time, we just listen to God when we experience the greatest tragedy in life and that is the only time that we follow Him.
