AIDS remains one of the worlds
most serious health challenges

Although much of the news on
AIDS is encouraging, challenges
remain. The number of people
newly infected globally is
continuing to decline, but
national epidemics continue to
expand in many parts of the
world.

In at least nine countries (including the Philippines), the number of
people newly infected in 2011 was at least 25% higher than in 2001.

Challenges We are Facing
Health personnel are incapable of handling suspected and HIV
positive patients. (Lack of training on HACT, HCT, Basic HIV/STI
Orientation)
Strengthen the reporting and referral system for HIV and STI.
Lack of Social Hygiene Clinic especially among the areas
included on the prioritization.
Increase program intervention among MSMs.

What has been Done
Basic orientation on HIV and STI among health personnel:
Santa Cruz, Laguna
San Pablo City
Provision of test kits and trainings for the IHBSS Sites, Batangas
City and Bacoor City.

May 5 10, 2013: HIV Counseling, Testing and Training to be Conducted by
NASPCP, one staff of GEAMH recommended as participant / Councellor

May 27 June 4, 2013: two Medical Technologist of Bacoor City Health Office
recommended to undergo HIV Proficiency Training and one MedTech of Bagong
Cainta Municipal Hospital tp undergo HIV Proficiency Training at SACCL, San
Lazaro, Hospital

Pending Event: first CaLaBaRZon AIDS Congress to be announced when is the
final date and Venue.

June 4, 2013: Scheduled date of Alaminos Laguna to conduct Basic Orientation
on STI/HIV and AIDS to club owners, Health Staff, LGUs and NGOs.

June 17 - 18 2013: Laguna PHO requesting to conduct Basic STI/HIV and AIDS
Orientation.

June 27 28, 2013: Priorities for Action:
-Strategic Planning Workshop for the Four Municipalities Key Affected
Areas in Rizal Province for HIV Response and Intervention.

Priority Actions:
-Requested SACCL, San Lazaro Hospital for the Team to Asses /
Evaluate STI Clinic of Cainta Rural Health Unit for upgrading into a
Social Hygiene Clinic and become functional and operational,
Particularly its Laboratory Services.


Key Strategies:
-Prevention if Infection among groups of people who are practically risky.
-Provision of supportive care and Treatment services to the infected and
affected and
-Strengthen a sustainable and operational systems for response.

Major Challenges as an individual:
-Raising Public Understanding as the impact of STI/HIV and AIDS to the
Individual, Family and Community


Major Challenges as Service Providers
-Generating more Political Support
-Maintaining STI/HIV and AIDS in our Social Services Programs at all levels of
Governance
-Widen the service delivery network of response
-Document, Monitor and Evaluating our responses that are based on our local
epidemic
