1.Discharge of chemicals amd other waste to surface water 2.Emission of sulfur dioxide and heavy metals 3. Increased demand for electrical power 6.MAJOR PLANTS Impacts
1.Create spent nuclear fuel at the rector site. 2.Produces tailings at uranium mines and mills 3.Can released small amounts of radioactive isotopes 4.Can release large quantities of dangerous radioactive materials OVERVIEW OF ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT SYSTEM Evironmentally Critical Projects are projects or industries that have critical environmental impacts and therefore need to undergo Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)System and (EIS) prior to implementation. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT(EIA)SYSTEM Proclaims certain areas and types of projects as environmentally critical & w/in this scope EIA established under presidential decree no.1586.
DEFINITION EIA SYSTEM-is a systematic process to identify ,predict and evaluate the environmental effects of proposed projects in order to aid decision making reagarding the significant environmental consequences of projects developments and programmes.
PURPOSE: To identify the environmental issues and highlight those issues for consideration and incorporation by the decision makers vested with legal authority and technical skills such as land used planning, water resources management, forestry, fisheries and geosciences share on the task of supervising and addressing environment concerns.
EIA in the context of the Philippines Environmental Impact Statement(EIS)System The emphasis ,compared with many other mechanism for environmental protection is on PREVENTION. >The process of predicting the likely environmental consequences of implementing a project and designing appropriate preventive mitigating and enhancement measures as an input to decision making
