Input Devices :
An input device is any device that provides input to a
computer. There are dozens of possible input devices, but
the two most common ones are a keyboard mouse.

Input devices convert the users action and analog data
(sound, graphics, pictures) into digital electronic signal
that can be processed by a computer. Without input
devices, a user would not be able to feed instructions to a
computer.

Mouse:

Mouse is a point and click input device with two or three
buttons which controls the movement of the cursor or
pointer on a display screen.

The first mouse was built in 1968 by Douglas Engelbarts at
Standford Research Institute.

Its name is derived from its shape, which looks a bit like a
mouse, its connecting wire that one can imagine to be the
mouse's tail.

There are three types of mouse :

Mechanical Mouse: The mouse which has rubber or
metal ball under it which rolls in all direction is
mechanical mouse.

Optical Mouse: It uses the laser to dictate the
mouses movement

Uptomechanical Mouse: Its same as the mechanical
mouse but uses the optical sensor to dictate the
motion.
Keyboard :

It is simply a set of typewriter like keys that allows us to
enter the data into the computer.

Computer keyboard are similar to the electric typewriter
keyboard but it contains additional keys.

The keys in the keyboard are classified into 3 groups :
Alpha Numeric Keys
Special keys
Punctuation Keys
Microphone:

A microphone is a device that converts mechanical
energy (Sound or wave) into electrical energy.
Microphone is a part of everyday life. They are use in
computer during the video conference call, chatting,
etc.

There are different types of microphones. Mostly they
are used in mobiles, computer, radio, tape recorder etc.
Joypad
Joypad is similar to joystick. It is designed
for gaming input.

It has multi-directional touch pad. It is most
commonly used with games consoles but
also suitable for computers.

It also normally has additional buttons or
switches that are used in addition to the
stick.
Scanner
Scanner is an input device. It is used to enter pictures,
graphs and other documents in computer and allow
saving in different formats.

It has two main components:

Data capturing sub system: is used to illustrate
image and convert into optical form.

Image Processing Subsystem: is used to convert
optical image into digital.
Joystick
There have been many different types of game
controllers used in the history of computer games.
The most popular controller has been joystick,
which is simple a box with button and stick to
control the motion in the game.

Therefore, it is a lever that moves in all directions
and controls the movement of a pointer or some
other display symbol .
Output Device

An output device is any piece of computer
hardware equipment used to communicate the results
of data processing carried out by an information
processing system (such as a computer) to the outside
world.
VDU (Visual Display Unit ) / Monitor
Monitor or VDU( Visual Display Unit)
is an output device used to display
data and information.

It plays vital role for users to know
the outcome of the raw data given to
the computer.

Types of VDU :

CRT : It is a most common type of display. CR%T is simply a glass
container having cathod at one end and device called an electtrogan
that protects the beam of cathod.

LCD : CRT monitor is reliable but it consumes more power, small in
size and doesnt flick.

Plasma Display Pannel: It is a flat pannel which is commonly used
for large T.V. display (Normally more than 37)

Printer

A printer is a device that prints text or illustrations on
paper. Generally, it produces hard copy on the plain paper.
The printed output is referred to as hardcopy because it is
in relatively permanent form.

There are many types of printers and some of them are:
Daisy-wheel
Dot-Matrix
Ink-Jet printer
Laser
Plotter
It is used to draw pictures on paper based
on commands from a computer. Plotters
differ from printers in that they draw lines
using a pen.

They can produce continuous lines. Plotters
are used in engineering applications. They
are more expensive than printers.
Speaker

Speakers are the output devices that let us hear sounds
that are played on a computer.

Sounds are the source of information so speakers
therefore send out information.

Modem
Modem is most common type of communication processor

MODEM is an electronic device that converts digital signal
into analog and vice versa.

Two types of modem:

Modulator:-it coverts digital signal into analog.

Demodulator:- it converts analog signal into digital signal.
