an occasion marked by
women's groups around
the world.
The IWD is also celebrated
as the first spring holiday
in the Northern
Hemisphere as the first
day of March is
considered the first day of
the spring season.

This 2011 marks the hundredth and one year of women's
day celebration across the world. International
women's day was first celebrated in 19 March 1911 in
Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. Every
year, there used to be a theme for celebrating the great
day.

The International Womens Day logo is in purple and white and
features the symbol of Venus, which is also the symbol of
being female. The faces of women of all backgrounds, ages,
and nations are also seen in various promotions, such as
posters, postcards and information booklets, on
International Womens Day. Various messages and slogans
that promote the day are also publicized during this time of
the year.
International Womens Day is celebrated every year
around the world on 8 March. Thousands of events
are organized not just on this day but throughout
March t0 mark and celebrate the economic, political
and social achievements of women.
