Working While Studying
 Permission to work can be done electronically or on
paper using form 157P.

 A visa with permission to work enables you to work up to


20 hours a week on a casual basis during course time and
full-time during Vacation periods.

 Family members can also apply for permission to work up


to 20 hours a week throughout the year. 

 In the case of masters and doctorate students and AusAID


or Defense-sponsored students, family members can apply
for permission to work unlimited hours.
Working While Studying

 Some students tutor school children or get jobs on campus


in the canteen, the bookshop, in the institution's offices and
as laboratory assistants. Some jobs are entirely outside the
education community such as bartending, babysitting,
gardening, hospitality, sales, information technology,
restaurants, checkout work or fruit picking.

 Some institutions offer a job placement service. If work is


available you will need to obtain a tax file number from the
Australian Tax Office.

Careers After Graduation
 The Australian Government skilled migration program targets young
people who have skills, an education and outstanding abilities that will
contribute to the Australian economy. International students with
Australian qualifications account for about half the people assessed
under the skilled migrant program.

In order to qualify for the skilled migration program applicants must


pass a points test and satisfy some basic requirements. These include:

 You must be under the age of 45 years when you apply;


 You must have an acceptable level of English language proficiency-IELTS-6.0;
 You must have post-secondary school qualifications or work experience relevant
to your nominated occupation;
 Your nominated occupation must appear on DIAC’s Skilled Occupations List;
 You must be able to demonstrate recent work experience;
 You must have your skills accessed prior to applying to migrate; and
 Points are awarded to applicants with Australian qualifications.

Financial evidence –Loans
 Loan must be from an acceptable financial institution and
must be fully sanctioned. Loans granted ‘in-principle’ are not
acceptable.
 Details of guarantor’s collateral security and its owner should
be mentioned on the loan letter.
 Property mortgaged against the loan should be in the name
of an acceptable individual.
 For a loan other than an education loan, letter from the bank
to be provided stating the name of the applicant and that
loan can be used for his/her education purpose.
LOANS
 If loan is secured against a recently created FD, please
provide the source of the FD.
 Loan disbursement letter is required to be produced prior
to grant as evidence of paying the first instalment fee.
 Loans against security of property is accepted – show
details of ownership of the property
 the income for all eligible financial sponsors are taken into
consideration to calculate the income-fund ratio.

12 weeks prior to course commencement date

orientation starts. Applications should not be
lodged after course has commenced, with
extension letters from the University.
