THE

MERCY &
GRACE OF
GOD

Do you think that I like to see
wicked people die? says the
Sovereign LORD. Of course not!
I want them to turn from their
wicked ways and live.
Ezekiel 18:23

. . .for the LORD is full of
tenderness and mercy.
James 5:11
Oh, give thanks to the LORD,
for He is good! For His mercy
endures forever.
1 Chronicles 16:34

Israel, I cant let you go. I cant
give you up. How could I possibly
destroy you as I did the towns of
Admah and Zeboiim? I just cant
do it. My feelings for you are
much too strong.
Hosea 11:8-9 (CEV)

Israel, how can I give you up?
How can I give you away, Israel?
I dont want to make you like
Admah or treat you like Zeboiim.
My heart beats for you, and my
love for you stirs up my pity.
Hosea 11:8 (NCV)

TWO PROBLEMS OF MAN :
2. Forgiving ourselves.
1. Accepting the mercy and grace
of God.

FACTS ABOUT GODS MERCY
AND GRACE :
1. God is Sovereign in granting
His mercy and grace.
King Hezekiah was granted mercy.
(2 Kings 20:1-6)
Moses was denied mercy when he
pleaded to enter the promised land.
(Deuteronomy 3:25-26)

For He says to Moses, I will have
mercy on whom I have mercy, and
I will have compassion on whom I
have compassion.
Romans 9:15
God is sovereign in His mercy and
His grace.

2. Gods grace does not mean a
lack of consequences to sin.
Example : King David
He was forgiven and restored but
the consequences of his sin still
remained. ( 2 Samuel 12:10-11)
In Psalm 51, David cried out : Have
mercy on me, O God, according
Your lovingkindness.

3. Mercy and Grace are expensive.
The mercy and grace of God uses
to cover mankinds sins are not
cheap. They cost heaven its finest
jewel the Son of God.
Him who knew no sin He made to
be sin on our behalf that we might
become the righteousness of God
In Him. ( 2 Corinthians 5:21 )

INSIGHTS ABOUT GRACE :
Matthew 16:24
Galatians 2:20-21
1. Grace does not eliminate
responsibility, rather, grace
emphasizes human responsibility.

b) Grace does not make one
irresponsible; it makes one more
responsible.
What shall we say then? Shall
we continue in sin, that grace
may abound? God forbid.
Romans 6:1-2

4. We are saved through grace.
Our salvation is by atonement,
not attainment.
Unmerited favor cannot be merited.
God did for us what we could not
do.

When justice is meted out ,
WE RECEIVE WHAT WE DESERVE;
When mercy is extended,
WE DO NOT RECEIVE WHAT WE
DESERVE;
When grace is bestowed,
WE RECEIVE WHAT WE DO NOT
DESERVE.

Our
Response
To
Mercy &
Grace

1. Let us remember that blessed are
the merciful, for they shall obtain
mercy. (Matthew 5:7)
2. Let us remember that mercy and
grace demand action on our part.
Mercy is to feel sympathy with the
misery of another, and especially
sympathy manifested in act.

3. Let us remember that nothing
take precedence over our Savior.
Christ demand is consistent with
His suffering on our behalf.
He demands total / absolute
surrender.

CONCLUSION :
The Parable of the Prodigal Son
. . .but while he was still a long way
off, his father saw him and was filled
with compassion for him; he ran to
his son, threw his arms around him
and kissed him. (Luke 15:20)

The son did not received what he
deserved.
He received what he did not deserve.
He received mercy and grace. His
father wanted him back.

GOD HAS CALLED EACH ONE OF
US TO BECOME DISPENSERS FOR
HIS MERCY AND GRACE.
LOOK AROUND AND YOU WILL
SEE COUNTLESS OF PEOPLE
WHO LONG TO EXPERIENCE THE
MERCY AND GRACE OF GOD.
