Inside a Laptop
Part of Hardware 1
Case: Metal box that contains most hardware components on PCs, but are integrated in laptops.

Power supply: Converts AC (alternating current) to DC (direct current) for the computer to use.
Laptops use a battery.

Motherboard
Components directly attached to or part of the motherboard include:
Central-Processing-Unit: Does the calculations that make the computer work, many new ones have
GPUs. It is usually cooled by a fan.
Chipset
Random-Access-Memory: Stores data that is being actively use by the CPU.
Read-Only-Memory: Stores BIOS (Basic Input Output System) that is what is run when the
computer is turned on.
Buses: Connects the CPU to internal components and expansion cars for sound and graphics.
The CMOS battery: Powers the memory for date and time, same as a watch battery.
Part of Hardware 2
Expansion cards: Can be inserted in expansion slots in the motherboard to add functions to the
computer.

Storage devices: Computer parts that store data.
Fixed media: Hard disk drives are lost-cost and have a high capacity, but solid-state drives are
faster and more efficient, but more expensive. This is where data and software applications are
stored.

Removable media: USB flash drives or optical disks, read and transfer data.
