What is HedEx Lite?
The HedEx Lite is the lightweight single-user software edition of the HedEx.
HedEx Lite, the single-user software edition of HUAWEI Electronic
Documentation Explorer (HedEx), HedEx Lite eases documentation browse and
search, and supports online product documentation upgrades. Service
engineers can use HedEx Lite to easily obtain the latest Huawei product
documentation.
Features
HedEx Lite has the following features:
Occupies disk space of only 5 MB and small memory space.
Does not need to be installed (if the software package is compressed, decompress it).
Huawei custom hdx format documentation package and local multi-format document
management,allowing users to browse documents of different products and different versions in
a centralized manner.
Provides powerful search functions, allowing users to quickly find desired information.
Supports automatic library upgrade, allowing users to obtain the latest Huawei product
documentation in a timely manner.
Supports automatic software upgrade, allowing users to obtain the latest version of HedEx Lite
in a timely manner.
Support online and Huawei Technologies support site document is an extension of Huawei
Technical Support Website

Glossary
HedEx Lite
A tool used to browse, search, and upgrade Huawei product documentation. HedEx is
pronounced as [`hediks] and is the acronym of Huawei Electronic Documentation Explorer.
HedEx Lite is the single-user edition of HedEx and uses small disk space and memory space.
Product documentation
Documents delivered to customers along with Huawei products. Product documentation
includes solution description, system description, product description, installation manuals,
and reference manuals. Product documentation provides guidance for understanding,
operating, and maintaining Huawei products.
hdx file
The specific format of Huawei electronic documents. The file name extension is .hdx. An .hdx
file can be opened only in HedEx Lite.
library
An .hdx file.
basic library
An independent library that can be directly uploaded to HedEx Lite.
extend library
A library used as a supplement to a basic library.

Obtaining HedEx Lite and Libraries
From a documentation CD-ROM shipped with a product:
The documentation CD-ROM includes the HedEx Lite software and libraries.
Using other methods:
Use the Online Query function of HedEx Lite.
Log in to http://support.huawei.com and download HedEx Lite on the home
page. Decompress the installation package and run Startup.exe. For details
about how to search for desired .hdx documents at the Support Website, click
the link in the following figure.

HedEx Lite may provide
PDF, Word, Excel, and PPT
documents. Therefore, you
need to install the
following software:
Adobe Reader 6.0 or later
Microsoft Office 2003 or
later
If the CPU of 3.0 GHz and memory of 1.5 GB are configured, HedEx Lite can support libraries with
the maximum size of 10 GB.
Starting the HedEx Lite
If you have saved the HedEx Lite on your computer, go to its save path and double-click .
If you are running the documentation CD-ROM, perform the following operations:
Click Run to start
the HedEx Lite.
Copy libraries
from the CD-
ROM to the
same local path
as HedEx Lite.
Copy both
libraries and
HedEx Lite to
your computer.
Click Run to start
the HedEx Lite.
Viewing and Uploading Libraries
If you have obtained libraries, click Library Management on the Admin page and upload libraries.
If the HedEx Lite does not contain the library that you require, you can access http://support.huawei.com
to obtain the library and then upload it to HedEx Lite.
If you have obtained HedEx Lite and libraries, double-click a library. Then HedEx Lite starts
automatically for you to view the library. This library, however, is not uploaded to HedEx Lite. Therefore,
this library is not displayed on the Home page after you restart HedEx Lite.
Open a library. You can go to
the previous or next topic and
view the sequence number (for
example, 306) of the current
topic in the library.

about how to upload

HedEx Lite Tray Icon
If you start the HedEx Lite, you will find a HedEx Lite tray
icon in the notification area. Right-click the HedEx
Lite tray icon to perform basic settings.
Right-click the HedEx Lite tray
icon and choose About from
the shortcut menu. The About
HedEx Lite page is displayed, as
shown in the following figure.
Change the default
save path to libraries.
Query the HedEx Lite
version that is in use.
You can add a
maximum of 10 library
paths.

Managing Documentation Narrowing Your
Search
As shown in the following figure, search results are sorted by three categories and
then further classified based on scenarios.
Note: In practice, the search categories for a library is associated with the search
design of the library.

D: Search results are simplified and the
same title of results are combined,
which makes it easier to browse and

Search by navigation node(1)
Direct search in the document package may bring a lot of search results. You can select
one or more navigation nodes to narrow down the search scope and improve the search
accuracy.
Procedure:
1. In the document package, click Search in Navigator.

3. Enter a keyword and click Search. Then, find the desired information from the search
results.
Cloud Search(1)
Cloud Search enables you to start a search task without opening the HedEx Lite,
Support, or Support-E websites. After starting the HedEx Lite, you can press Alt twice to
start Cloud Search, which facilitates document, software, and case search.

Use either of the following methods to start Cloud Search:
Method 1: Press Alt twice.
Method 2: Click Cloud Search on the HedEx Lite desktop.

1. Enter a keyword.
2. Select the search range from the associated results.

NOTE:
If you directly press Enter after entering a keyword, the search is performed within the default
search range.

1. Click Option on the upper right corner to go to the setting page.

2. Click Enable hot key. Then you can start Cloud Search by pressing Alt twice.
3. Select a default search range, enter a keyword, and press Enter. Cloud Search
performs search within the default search range.

Upgrade: Upgrade Methods
Note:
The follow requirements must be met:
You have required permission to access the Support Website.
You have a Support Website user account or a user account with higher permission.
You can use the
documentation upgrade
function only after login.

Library Upgrade: Automatic Detection
If you have saved HedEx Lite and libraries on your computer, HedEx Lite automatically checks for library
upgrade:
If only libraries are upgraded, HedEx Lite notifies customers and Huawei engineers of the upgrade of local
libraries.
If a Huawei product is upgraded, a Huawei engineer fills in a software application form for automatically sending the latest
libraries to a specific customer who uses the HedEx Lite. Then the HedEx Lite notifies the customer of the library upgrade,
helping customers to obtain the latest libraries in time. (Currently this function does not apply to support-E website users.)
The HedEx Lite automatically
detects for new libraries available at
http://support.huawei.com based on
the Frequency you specify. If there
are libraries to be upgraded, a
message is displayed in the taskbar
tray.
The HedEx Lite automatically detects for new libraries available
at http://support.huawei.com at a two-day interval. If there are
libraries to be upgraded, a message is displayed in the taskbar
tray. If you click on the message, the message will not be
displayed the next two days. If you do not click on the
message, the message will be displayed once you start the
HedEx Lite again. The HedEx Lite will not detect for new
libraries the next two days irrespective of whether you click on
the message.
Library Upgrade: Manual Detection
On the Upgrade Library tab page, click
Upgrade libraries to check whether library
upgrade is needed.
If you have saved HedEx Lite and libraries on your computer, HedEx Lite
automatically checks for library upgrade:
Assume that the libraries of Quidway S6300 V100R006C00_02 exist in HedEx Lite. If new versions
of libraries are released at http://support.huawei.com, the list of upgrade tasks is displayed below
after you click Upgrade libraries.
Click on the library name can go directly
to the Library online browsing page.
Library Upgrade: Online Query
Enter a correct product name. When you enter the first letter of a
product name, the HedEx Lite automatically displays all related
product names for your reference.

to the Library online browsing page.
After selected the libraries which you wanted to download,click "OK" will
automatically download the libraries and load them into HedEx Lite, you can
browse the downloaded libraries in HedEx Lite "Home" column, download the
libraries will be saved in the HedEx Lite installation path of folder named libraries.
Library Upgrade: Rollback
Rollback succeeded.
After a library is upgraded, if you find that the target version is not the required one,
choose Upgrade Library > Upgrade Log and click the left arrow icon as shown in the
following figure to roll back to the source version.

When viewing a library, you can create a remark as required.
1. Click Add Remark to
open the Remarks page.

displayed if
there are
remarks.

remarks to an Excel file.

the remarks that are
exported from the HedEx

Tip: The import and export functions are used for data backup, data migration, and batch feedback.
5. Click a remark to locate the
specific library content.
Connect with Author
You can provide
feedback on each
topic in an .hdx file.
Click View Your Feedback to view
replies. If a document is not uploaded
to the Huawei support website, you
cannot see the feedback about this
document.
When you click Email
Feedback, your local
email client will be
invoked automatically.
You can send your
feedback to the default
email address
supportmaster@huaw
ei.com.
Enter your feedback and
click Submit. You can go
to My Support to view
replies.
You can provide feedback if
you have any doubts,
suggestions, or requirements.
Managing Documentation Creating Favorites
When viewing a library, you can create a favorite for the page that you are interested in.
On the Favorites page, you can view all favorites.
If a favorite title is unavailable, the related library does not exist and therefore cannot
be opened.
Click a favorite to view
specific document
content.
Click Add Favorite to open
the Favorites page.

On the Library Management page, you can:
Create folders to
display libraries
in a hierarchy.
Choose
whether to
display a
library on the
Home page.
Upload a library. To upload multiple libraries at a time, click Add
More and then click Browse to add more libraries.
You can click this button to add non-HDX documents in local folders to the
HedEx Lite, and search for non-HDX documents in local folders in the same
way as it searches for HDX documents. Supported non-HDX documents
include PDF, HTML, Word, Excel, PPT, TXT, and ZIP documents.

Click Load Local Folder to manage documents in PDF, HTML, Word,
Excel, PPT, TXT, and ZIP formats in this folder.

local document. The HedEx Lite can search

Managing Documentation Saving Pages
You can use the page saving function provided by Internet Explorer to save one or
more pages.
Tip: Only HTML pages can be saved.

News and Promotion
The news and promotion function is added. Pop-up news released by
support.huawei.com are synchronized to HedEx Lite clients.
Enable news and promotion in HedEx Settings determines whether to receive pop-
up news from support.huawei.com.

Notes:
If a user starts and logs in to the HedEx Lite, the user views pop-up news released to login
users.
Application management

In addition to the default applications, the HedEx Lite provides optional applications for
you to add as required.
Procedure:
1. Use one of the following methods to go to the Application Management page:

Method 1: Right-click on the HedEx Lite desktop and
choose Application Management.
Method 2: On the lower right corner of the HedEx Lite
desktop, click the Application Management button.
2. Search for the desired applications, and click Add in the right pane to add them to
the HedEx Lite desktop.
3. To delete unnecessary applications from the HedEx Lite desktop, click Delete.

Automatic Upgrade
The HedEx Lite automatically accesses http://support.huawei.com to check for its
latest version every seven days after its first start. If a new version is detected, a
message is displayed prompting you to download and upgrade the HedEx Lite.
Alternatively, you can check for a new version of the HedEx Lite by using the
HedEx Lite icon on the taskbar.
Notes:
To upgrade the HedEx Lite, you must have an equipment customer account or a user with
higher permission.
During the HedEx Lite upgrade, all data (including libraries, remarks, and favorites) of the
earlier HedEx Lite moves to HedEx Lite of the latest version.

Problem Handling
Problem Handling
(1) When customers encounter any problem in the use of HedEx Lite, the customers
can contact Huawei frontline engineers for technical support or call the Huawei
Customer Service Hotline or compress the log folder under the HedEx Lite path and
send it to supportmaster@huawei.com.
(2) When customers or Huawei frontline engineers encounter any problem in the use
of HedEx Lite, they can submit the problems in the iCare based on the product.
(3) When the second-level engineers cannot solve a HedEx Lite problem, the problem
is submitted to the third-level engineers, that is, the HedEx Lite coordinator of the
corresponding product line for solution, or you can also contact the coordinator of the
Information Tools Department directly for help.

Note:
HedEx Lite is an attribute of documentation, pay attention to the following points when
submitting problems in the iCare:
Select Document in Root Cause, and enter HedEx Lite information in Work Note.
When the HedEx Lite applies to multiple products, select the product that the
submitter is responsible for.
