TYPES OF
WRITING
DESCRIPTIVE
Use your senses to describe the people and places you
are writing about. What do you see, hear, smell taste and
feel.
Create a picture for readers through description so they
can step into your story and be a part of it.
This type of writing is frequently used and may be found
in books as well as magazines and newspaper articles.
My first experience with a carnival ride was a
Ferris wheel at a local fair. Looking at that
looming monstrosity spinning the life out of its
sardine-caged occupants, I was dumbstruck.
It was huge, smoky, noisy and not a little
intimidating. Ever since that initial impression
became fossilized in my imagination many
years ago, these rides have reminded me of
mythical beasts, amazing dinosaurs carrying
off their screaming passengers like sacrificial
virgins..

EXPOSITORY
This is a fancy way of saying explain or inform. So, this
is writing that explains something.
You are informing readers.
Does not provide any interpretation or take a stance.
Like Descriptive writing, you see Expository writing in
books, magazines, and newspaper articles.
One of the most important periods in an individuals
life is, without doubt, their school years. School is a
place were children and teenagers socialize, obtain
different social skills, and prepare themselves for their
future life and career. School is also the time of
turbulent psychological processes which are typical
for the teen years; teenagers are especially vulnerable
in terms of influenceboth positive and negativeon
their psyche.
NARRATIVE
This is the kind of writing where you get to tell a story.
Personal Narrative- story about themselves .
A story will use literary elements like characters, a
setting, a plot and a theme.
From novels to screenplays to plays, they are all
narratives because they tell a story.
Though traveling is not a big deal today, and
lots of my peers rolled over the whole US or
even abroad, before my trip I used to be a
homebody. I had friends to hang out with,
several hobbies, and I felt completely
comfortable about spending weeks or even
months in my hometownor sometimes even
on my blockwithout going anywhere.
PERSUASIVE
With Persuasive writing, a writer tries to change your
mind or your point of view.
Using facts and opinions, the writer tries to get you to see
things his/her way.
Politics overflows with writing and speeches by people
trying to persuade others to their way of thinking.
Sometimes, in newspapers and magazines, you see
Persuasive writing in articles called editorials.
Nature is about balance and harmony what
we lack when we live inside the swirling pit of
urbanized cities. Sometimes we escape, but so
rarely and so abruptly, that such escapades can
hardly help us re-establish our link with nature.
Individuals who live in city areas should
consider changing their routine and getting out
into nature more regularly.
ARGUMENTATION
we not only give information but also present an
argument with the PROS (supporting ideas) and CONS
(opposing ideas) of an argumentative issue.
We should clearly take our stand and write as if we are
trying to persuade an opposing audience to adopt new
beliefs or behavior.
The primary objective is to persuade people to change
beliefs that many of them do not want to change.
Mass media claims to provide a diversity of different
thoughts including political, religious, economic and
other ones without thrusting the opinion of the
audience. Do journalists, news producers and all the
mass media representatives choose themselves the
event they will report and the material they will
cover? The reality says that the liberal bias of the
mass media is nothing more than a myth. The nation
sees and hears only what the mass media owners want
it to perceive.
