OUTLINE

Summer training at RELIANCE INDUSRIES LIMITED,

Manufacturing division, ALLAHABAD

An amazing experience as I got to see, how exactly the

manufacturing of yarn take place.

Main objective was to learn what is the process of yarn

manufacturing.

INTRODUCTION TO RIL ALLAHABAD

In Allahabad , RIL is mainly concerned with the manufacturing of
PFY (Polyester Filament Yarn) &POY ( Polyester Oriented Yarn) & Polymer Chips.
The Company is:

Largest producer of Polyester Fibre and Yarn

5th largest producer of Paraxylene (PX)

5th largest producer of Polypropylene (PP)

8th largest producer of Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) and Mono Ethylene
Glycol (MEG)

POLYMERIZATION

To form polyester, dimethyl terephthalate is first reacted with ethylene

glycol in the presence of a catalyst at a temperature of 150-210 C.

The resulting chemical, a monomer alcohol, is combined with

terephthalic acid and raised to a temperature of 280C. Newly formed
polyester, which is clear and molten is extruded through a slot to form
long ribbon.

DRYING

After the polyester emerges from polymerization, the long molten

ribbons are allowed to cool until they become brittle.

The material is cut into tiny chips and completely dried to prevent
irregularities in consistency.

SPINNING

polymer chips are melted at 260-270C to

form a syrup like solution. The solution is

put in a metal container called a
spinneret and forced through its tiny
holes.

ring yarn is finer than open end.

it has more hairiness as compare to

open end.

DRAW THE FIBRE

when polyester emerges from the spinneret, it is soft and easily

elongated up to five times its original length.

This increases the strength and resilience of the fibre.

The fibre becomes solid and strong instead of brittle.

Drawn fibre may vary greatly in diameter and length, also they may
be textured or twisted to create softer or duller fabrics.

WINDING

After the polyester yarn is drawn, it is

wound on large bobbins or flatwound packages, ready to be
woven into materials.
