The need for Disaster
Management
Natural Disasters or Manmade would keep on
happening. Unfortunately there has been no
technological advances so far which can
eliminate their occurrences in it’s totality.
The fact is that we can’t avoid it…but we can
be prepared and handle them properly so that
we can save lives and resources which would
otherwise be lost due to delays in finding
solutions in times of crisis.

IT is a great tool for mankind
Through IT & communication networks not only
we can keep a tab on local disasters/mishaps but
we can be aware of minor/major disasters
happening in far flung areas and can prepare us
for providing relief and mitigation work
There are websites like www.reliefweb.int and
GDIN.org etc which have been providing info for
major/minor disasters across the globe
irrespective of any class, culture, race or ethnicity
This is a very important tool for the benefit of
mankind to save his fellow brothers from disasters
by acting swiftly through the information made
available by the IT tools.

Proposed solution
Disaster Management System :
Help Line1077
The proposal is to connect all the
districts of the city through one
centralized wireless, server based
unit which comes to immediate
action as and when any such
unfortunate disaster takes place in
any part of the city. 9
How it will work:
At the time of any situation, the call station

1. Fire
2. Riots/Bomb Blasts
3. Earthquakes/Natural Calamities
4. Floods

and how this system
will work in such a
situation

We are looking at a particular
disaster situation in the said area
to see how this system works
efficiently saves precious life and

Disaster Call Centre

The call centre sends all necessary
details to the local fire station to act
upon the situation on SOS
16
Data Base with contacts nos
District Administration Nodal Officers
District staff of Live people detection unit
District municipal staff for debris removal
District Police Stations/Officers
District Bomb Disposal Squads
District Hospitals (Govt/Private)
District Health/Medical Officers
District Fire Stations/Officers
District Blood Banks
Local Army Area Command Unit
17
Data Base
Here the call centre is having the data base of
the nearest fire centre, police station, hospital
details, no of beds etc., names and nos of
district nodal officers to be contacted in case
of emergency
This way the data base is very useful in case
of any emergency
The nodal officers are in turn connected with
their counter parts of various
units/departments
18
Simultaneously, the Call Station triggers an alarm
informing the Main Fire Station about the incident. The
required action Is initiated immediately to take control
of the situation, thereby avoiding major loss to life and
resources

Disaster / Emergency Communication
System works with the backbone of a
VSAT which works by providing all
necessary info and video feeds of the
affected areas to all the concerned
departments.
24
The Inbuilt mobile system in the
call centre enables the user to
make contact with the system in
case of Emergency when
manually triggering the system
is not possible
25
The mobile system of the call station
establishes communication with the user/
victim to take necessary details of the
situation and alerts the concerned
departments In case of fire press 1
In case of riot press 2
In case of earthquake press 3
In case of flood press 4
