Overview
E&M systems broadly means Electrical and
Mechanical equipments of Metro Network for
lighting, air-conditioning and ventilation requirements
of stations and tunnels at voltage levels up to 415V.
These can be broadly classified into two groups:

Highlights of MV POWER SYSTEM

Electrical supply to whole of the station is from MDB

located in SS rooms.

MDB receives power from 33KV/415V transformer

located in ASS rooms.

This MV power is distributed to whole of the station at

415V, 3phase & neutral/240V, 1phase & neutral as per
utility.

DG SYSTEM

Diesel Generating Sets are provided in every

station of rail and metro corridors:

3.

In case of U/G metro, it is provided at a separate

building called ancillary building.
DG sets start automatically whenever power supply fails.
DG set is suitable for continuous run for 8 hours in even
cold condition and is able to take full load within 30
seconds at all conditions fulfilled.

UPS & BATTERY SYSTEM

Typical rating of UPS in DMRC are:

1.
2.

At Metro Corridor
2x60 and 2x80 KVA
At Rail Corridor (Line-1) 2x20 and 2x40 KVA

3.

UPS is parallel redundant & ONLINE type.

4.

UPS is sized to power emergency loads for 30

minutes of autonomous operation time.

5.

No UPS is provided in Line-3. Internal battery

back-up is provided with 25% of lights.

SEEPAGE & SEEWAGE SYSTEM

This system is required to drain out the water

from pit where the water comes as seepage from
different location of the station and seewage
water( the same water which comes from toilet)

This system is having submersible pumps

submersed in pit whose electrical supply is
through MCC.

Environment Control System (ECS)

Consists of
Ventilation of Tunnel
Air Conditioning of Stations
Mechanical Ventilation for Plant Rooms
Smoke Control and Extraction

Equipments of ECS
1.

2.
3.

TEF
AHU
Centralized AC plants Its different assemblies
are as

Condenser Water Pump

Split AC
FCU
A Large number of different types of dampers.

TEF

Fresh or Cool Air

Hot Air
Damper Open
Damper Closed

TEF Functions

Track way Exhaust Fan suck the air of platform level

through UPE & OTE duct and send this air to AHU where
air is cooled and filtered .

TEF rotates in a single direction and has an axial flow of air

through it .

TEF (about 08 to 12) in numbers are located in each

station.

Split AC & FCU

Split AC are required for the system having intense

requirement for its proper functioning as such
chiller plant has to be shut down at non revenue
hours. These Split AC are powered through
SOCKETS which is connected to POWER
SOCKET DB.

Fan Coil Unit is the same system associated with

chiller unit we call it as a smaller version of AHU
used in place of Split AC its power supply is also
through POWER SOCKET DB

Tunnel Ventilation system (TVS)

Provide required ventilation for different operations

inside tunnel include
Normal Operation
Congested Operations
Fire Emergency Operation.

Air Compressor

Air Compressor Box

Highlights of TVS

Huge size of fans are installed at each station at both the extreme ends
of station from where tunnel starts.

These fans are having bidirectional feature for its rotation as per
requirement i.e. the fan can rotate in either supply mode or exhaust
mode.

Direction of its rotation is decided as per the location of fire. If one

station TVF is in supply mode another station where in between fire is
there will run in exhaust mode for quick overcome on smoke and fire.
