Background
For this research, it was formulated from
a single conversation that was overheard by
the researchers wherein one asks about the
college degree being taken by the other. The
reaction of being shocked by the one who was
asking, when the person being asked answered
that she was taking Bachelor of Science in
Criminology and that reaction was inculcated
to the researchers mind.
This
triggered
inquiries
from
the
researchers head, like the question why
would be someone be shocked if a female is
taking this kind of course? and then it
followed more and more questions that made
the researchers choose this topic as their
thesis.

Research Design
This study made use of the quantitative method of
research.
Quantitative
method
refers
to
the
systematic
empirical
investigation
of
social
phenomena
via
statistical,
mathematical
or
computational techniques. The objective of this
method is to develop and employ mathematical models,
theories and/or hypotheses pertaining to phenomena.
The process of measurement is the central of
quantitative
research
because
it
provides
the
fundamental connection between empirical observation
and
mathematical
expression
of
quantitative
relationships. (Wikipedia)
Primarily, the researchers have utilized this
method to give a precise numerical value to the
population and survival rate of females in Data
Center College of the Philippines, Laoag City from
year 2009 2013 in order to show an accurate set of
numbers that will represent the said subject matters
and compare these numbers from each other to further
understand the social behavior of females in relation
this field of knowledge.

Respondents
The respondents of the study are the total existing
female students, who are officially enrolled to the
course of Bachelor of Science in Criminology of Data
Center College of the Philippines, Laoag City as of
A.Y. 2014 2015 1st semester. The respondents are as
shown on the table below.

Summary
This
research
is
entitled,
the
survival rate of female criminology
students of DCCP Laoag city. The primary
purpose of this research is to determine
the survivability rate of females in the
course BS Criminology offered at Data
Center College of the Philippines Laoag
City. We also want to know the reasons
why many females nowadays chose this
type of course.

Summary of Findings

in the said course choose it on their own free will.

males wherein there was a 21% female.

to 2013 was 36% of their total population from their
initial enrollment whereas the females got an average of
51%.

Conclusions
As stated in the findings, the conclusions were made as
follows:
1.As to the reason of the females in choosing the said course.
a)Majority chose BSCRIM due to their own free will.
b)That there were still female students who enrolled the
said degree with reasons other than their own free will.
c)That their primary reason varies from one another, such
as financial capability, financial stability in the
future, own passion, it is the trending course and to
prove that males and females are equals.
d)Majority enrolled this course with a definite reason.
2. As to the current population and population rate of BSCRIM
in Data Center College of the Philippines.
a)That
the
said
course
is
still,
undoubtedly
and
indisputably a male dominated course throughout its
creation in the said school.
b)That even if the population was a male dominated figures
of numbers, the population rate was surprisingly higher
that of the females than the males in the year of 2009
2013.

3.As

the
academic
performance
of
criminology
students.
a)That the males dominate in the number of officially
dropped records than that of the females.
b)That the rate of officially dropped students was
still dominated by males with only a small
difference.
4.As to the survivability of the students in terms of
numbers of graduates and graduation rates.
a)Even though males dominate the said course, females
have higher survivability rate than males based from
initial enrolment to graduation proper.
5.As to the number of board passers and passing rate of
each gender.
a)That the number of professional board examination
passers was dominated by males.
b)That the passing rate of males dominates of that of
the females.

Recommendations
The researchers recommend the following based on the
information that was stated in Summary of Findings and
Conclusions.
1.As to the reason in enrolling the said course.
a)It is highly recommended that if a person does not
have any desire to this course in the first place,
they should quit and find more suitable course for
themselves.
b)But even if you dont have the said desire, if you
really want to finish this course, you need to find a
good
motivating
factor
that
can
drive
your
perseverance to work.
2.As to the population and population rate.
a)Current females who are enrolled in the said course
should not falter in finishing it and they need to
encourage more of their own in enrolling the said
course to increase their numbers and not be called
endangered species.

3.As to the performance of the students.

a)That even though males flunks/failed and dropped more
than females, the latter should maintain their current
status to show that even if females are few in
numbers, they possessed better qualities.
4.As to the number of graduates.
a)Males should persevere more on surviving this course
because basically, they dominate in number. So they
should have a higher rate of survivability than
females.
b)Females should maintain their survivability rate
because even if they are few, they should show the
people that what is more important is the quality
rather than quantity.
5.As to the
passers.

number

of

professional

board

examination

a)The females should exert more effort in passing the

board exam to show the community that they can surpass
males in a field that is a male dominated one.
