Ergonomics??
Ergonomics

is a scientific discipline that

deals with understanding the interaction
between humans and other elements of a
socio-technical system.

Four main domains for interaction between

humans and socio-technical systems are

Physical Ergonomics deals with the anatomical,

anthropometric, physiological and biomechanical parameters in

static and dynamic physical work.

Cognitive Ergonomics This approach addresses problems such

as attention distribution, decision making, formation of learning skills,

usability of human-computer systems, cognitive aspects of mental
load, stress and human errors at work.

Neuroergonomics is a relatively new development which

involves the application of more in-depth neurophysiological

methods such as brain imaging techniques.

Social or Organizational Ergonomics deals with the

optimization of sociotechnical work systems, including their
structures, policies and organizational processes.

Car design

Car industry design is a competitive and constant changing and

improving field, where car seat design plays an important part in the
whole design concept. Car seat design varies from car to car and
from company to company, and it is a subject for stating creativity,
personality, safety, functionality and differentiation.

Car seats are commonly evaluated in terms of comfort and safety,

built upon basic seat functionality and usability of the seat and its
controls.

Occupant packaging

Vehicle occupant packaging is the process of laying out the interior

of a vehicle to achieve the desired levels of accommodation
comfort, and safety for the occupants.

The primary focus in occupant packaging is the drivers workstation.

The driver package usually refers to the locations and adjustment
ranges of the steering wheel and seat with respect to the pedals,
but also encompasses the physical locations of controls and displays
with which the driver interacts.

Computer aided ergonomic design

of car

Engineer will simulate driver behavior and measuring criteria such as

reach, visibility, comfort, posture and strength which will help the
team in making driver-oriented decisions about cockpit design.

For cockpit ergonomics, firstly a virtual digital model of each driver

using a combination of laser scanning and manual techniques is
created. The resultant models will be used to analyze and improve
accommodation issues like driver comfort, security, accessibility and
serviceability of components inside cockpit.

kind of motor vehicles:
1. Family and personal business sedan
2. Minivan and off-road vehicle
3. Sport cars
Three different occupants in the vehicle:
1)Driver

2) Front seat passenger

3) Rear set passengers

Criteria for a driver s seat :

1: the set should position the driver with unobstructed vision and
within reach of all vehicle control
2: the seat must accommodate the driver s size and shape
3: the seat should be comfortable for extended period
4: the seat should provide a safe zone for the driver in a crash

Collision avoidance system

A collision avoidance system is an automobile safety system

designed to reduce the severity of an accident.

it uses radar and camera sensors to detect an imminent crash.

Once the detection is done, these systems either provide a warning
to the driver when there is an imminent collision or take action
autonomously without any driver input (by braking or steering or
both)

Navigation system

A navigation system is a (usually electronic) system that aids

in navigation.

Comfort and Usability of the Seat

Belts

Seat belts are the primary occupant-protection devices for vehicle

crashes.

Field statistics show that proper usage of seat belts substantially

contributes to decreases in the fatality rate and injury level.

The coupe type of vehicles have the least comfortable seat belts
compared with other vehicle types. The most comfortable seat belts
are found in sedan and SUV type vehicles.
