Why DWDM?

Dense wavelength division multiplexing

permits rapid network deployment and
significant network cost reduction.

Use of DWDM allows deployment of less

fiber and hardware with more bandwidth
being available relative to standard SDH
networks.

How does DWDM work ?

DWDM combines multiple optical input signals to amplify
them as a group and transport them on a single fiber.
DWDM can do all this while maintaining performance,
reliability and robustness.

How does DWDM work ?

DWDM works by combining and transmitting

multiple signals simultaneously at different
wavelengths on the same fiber. In effect, one
fiber is transformed into multiple virtual fibers.

FUTURE IN DWDM

With the successful deployments of dense

wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM)
in telecommunications networks, capacity
of optical fibers has grown to multiterabits per second.

Changes are being proposed in the

Internet Protocol (IP) to be able to
support high-speed switching in DWDM
networks eliminating SDH layers.
