The Promise

In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth,
the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed,
you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise Ep.1:13

The spirit of man is the lamp of the Lord,

searching all his innermost parts. Pr.20:27
God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For
the Spirit searches everything, even the depths
of God. For what person knows a mans
thoughts except the spirit of the man which is in
him? So also no one comprehends the
thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 1
Cor.2:10-11

In the beginning was the Word, and the

Word was with God, and the Word was
God In Him was life, and the life was
the light of men. And the light shines in
the darkness, and the darkness did not
comprehend it. John 1:1;4-5

The word comprehend in John 1:5 is the

Greek word katalambano (kat-al-amban-o) which means to seize or to
possess eagerly. The word kata carries
the idea of intensity. The word lambano
means to sieze or take.

Or do you suppose it is in vain that the

scripture says, He yearns jealously over the
spirit which he has made to dwell in us? But
he gives more grace; therefore it says, God
opposes the proud, but gives grace to the
humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God.
Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
Draw near to God and he will draw near to
you. James 4:5-8

Yearns: epipotheo intensely crave

possession
Jealously: fear of being replaced

Genesis 2:7-11
then the Lord God formed man of dust
from the ground, and breathed into his
nostrils the breath of life; and man became
a living being. And the Lord God planted a
garden in Eden, in the east; and there he
put the man whom he had formed.

And the Lord God planted a garden in

Eden, in the east; and there he put the
man whom he had formed. And out of the
ground the Lord God made to grow every
tree that is pleasant to the sight and good
for food, the tree of life also in the midst of
the garden, and the tree of the knowledge
of good and evil.

A river flowed out of Eden to water the

garden, and there it divided and became
four rivers. The name of the first is
Pishon;
The name of the second river is Gihon;
And the name of the third river is Tigris,
And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

1 Corinthians 3:9 in the Amplified Bible

says, you are Gods garden. Further,
Jesus said that if we believed in Him, that
out of our innermost being would flow
rivers of living water (John 7:38).

The word Pishon means increase or fullflowing.

Gihon means bursting forth or gushing.
Hiddekel: Active, vehement, rapid
