Objectives of the project

To

investigate the occurrence of failure of the irrigation

project.
To identify the types and causes of failure of the irrigation
project. ( Phase I)
To

suggest the remedial measures for to make it

functioning. (Phase II)

Need for study

Investment on the irrigation project is more.

The risk and uncertainty involved in an irrigation project is more
like, unexpected natural impact.
We are in the situation to repair and rehabilitate the existing
irrigation structure rather than constructing the new one since the
effectiveness of an project is big question mark now a days.

List Of Failure Project In India

PROJECT

FAILURES

Kaddam Project Dam, Andhra Pradesh,

India

1. The dam was overtopped by 46 cm of water above the crest.

2.Breach of 137.2 m wide that occurred on the left bank.

Kaila Dam, Gujarat, India

1.Abnormal floods and inadequate spillway capacity.

2. Overtopping of the embankment.

Tigra Dam,Sank, Madhya Pradesh, India

1. The failure was due to sliding.

2. Two major blocks were bodily pushed away.

Kodaganar Dam, Tamil Nadu, India

1. Earthquake registered during the period of failure although

the foundation was strong.
2. Breaches of length 20 m to 200 m were observed.

Works Done

Site Visit has been gone to check the present status

Hydraulic data and Structural data were arrived
Hydraulic data is compared with the designed rate of flow of the
regulator to ensure the present inflow for dam
Compressive strength of the retaining wall has been taken to
check the pressure withstanding capacity of Retaining wall
And also water pressure has calculated to find the pressure
acting on the retaining wall, structure and embankment

Result
Then we check the project safety limits with the test results. We
confirmed the presences of embankment failures due to the pressure
of water over it.
In presence state the retaining wall is not stable because of the
change in water pressure is more so the retaining wall has required
some renovation for its proper functioning.
