NOZZLE

Anozzleis a device designed to

control the direction or
characteristics of afluidflow as it
exits an enclosed chamber orpipe.

A nozzle is often a pipe or tube of

varying cross sectional area, and it can
be used to direct or modify the flow of
a fluid (liquid orgas).
Nozzles are frequently used to control
the rate of flow, speed, direction, mass,
shape, and/or the pressure of the
stream that emerges from them.

The flow nozzle is a type of

differential pressure drop device
In a differential pressure drop device
the flow is calculated by measuring
the pressure drop over an
obstructions inserted in the flow.

TYPES of NOZZLE

JET

Agas jet,fluid jet, orhydro jetis

a nozzle intended to eject gas or
fluid in a coherent stream into a
surrounding medium.

Other types of fluid jets are found

inJacuzzisorspas.

Another specialized jet is

thelaminarjet. This is a water jet
that contains devices to smooth out
the pressure and flow, and
giveslaminar flow, as its name
suggests.

The goal is to increase thekinetic

energyof the flowing medium at
the expense of
itspressureandinternal energy.

High Velocity Nozzle

Convergent nozzles accelerate

subsonic fluids.

Divergent nozzles slow fluids if the

flow is subsonic, but they accelerate
sonic or supersonic fluids.

Convergent-divergent nozzlescan
therefore accelerate fluids that have
choked in the convergent section to
supersonic speeds.

Also known asconvergent-divergent

nozzle,CD nozzleorcon-di nozzle,
is a tube that is pinched in the
middle, making a carefully balanced,
asymmetrichourglass-shape.

de Laval nozzle

A jet exhaust produces a net thrust from

the energy obtained from combusting
fuel which is added to the inducted air.
This hot air passes through a high speed
nozzle, apropelling nozzle, which
enormously increases its kinetic energy.

PROPELLING NOZZLE

Propelling Nozzle

Many nozzles produce a very fine

spray of liquids.

SPRAY

Atomizer nozzlesare used for

spray painting, perfumes, spray
ondeodorants, antiperspirantsand
many other uses.

Air-Aspirating Nozzleuses an
opening in the cone shaped nozzle
to inject air into a stream of water
based foam to make the concentrate
"foam up".

Swirl nozzlesinject the liquid in

tangentially, and it spirals into the
center and then exits through the
central hole.

Swirl nozzles

The main function of a spray

nozzle is to meter the liquid, then
atomize and then distribute into the
desired pattern.

Pressure is inversely proportional to area. P= F/A

Then why is this pressure decreased in convergent
nozzle, although there is a decrease in area?
