SUB :BUSINESS AND ETHICAL VALUES
Introduction
 our society has to face the biggest challenge
of tackling and corruption.
 Government regulation and social
awareness are there, this menace is still
continuing without any instant cure.
 The major problems are . Gambling ,
prostitution , beggary , war with
neighbouring countries
 Bribery is one of the most common and
controversial issue that our country is
facing.

BRIBERY
 Bribes are personal payments , gifts, or
special factors granted improperly to
influence the outcome of decision.
 Bribery is a universally condemned and no
government in world legally permits
bribery of its own officials.
 Bribers and recipients of bribery are likewise
numerous although bribers have one
common denominator and that is the
financial ability to bribe.

Bribery in hospital

 hospital bribery can occur between patient and

doctor or between patient and other hospital
staff.
 Patients pay to ensure quality care, to guarantee
access to hospital treatment, to skip waiting
lists for operations or complicated diagnostic
procedures, even to get sick-leave certificates
for their employers.
 It is a serious ethical issue of our society
 It also start from top level to bottom level
 The patient will get more care if they pay more.
 The cost of bribes depends on the treatment

Bribery in government hospitals

 In government hospital medical professionals are

underpaid, patients may use bribery to solicit
the standard expected level of medical care.
 The government doctors are getting low salary.
 To overcome this problem the government allow
them to doing private practice in free time.
 This was for reducing the bribery, but human
want and need are never ending, if they get one
the next aim to get the other one.
 So increasing salary never reduce the problem.

 Hospital employees would not
change the bed sheets in
between patients, the nurses
would not give medicine or
injections if they do not get
bribes.
 In the case collecting bribes
we see a unity among the
hospital employees
 Hospital staff were also poorly
paid, so many patients gave
them a gratuity for their
service. Sometimes this
involved 'payment in kind' -
like a bottle of good alcohol
or a box of sweets.

 Example :
 A case report in last year about
the bribery
 A 30 year old lady, says she did
everything necessary to ensure
a healthy pregnancy .
 But she didn’t gave any bribe to
her gynecologist.
 At the date of delivery, her
gynecologist didn't came at
time. Twelve hours into labor,
she was left alone in her room
for an hour. When a doctor
appeared, the umbilical cord
was wrapped twice around her
baby's head and had nearly
suffocated him. He was blind
and deaf and had suffered
severe brain damage.

Bribery in private
hospital

 In private hospital also have bribery

problem more seriously than government
hospital.
 Now the private hospital also act as a
business unit, the main aim is making
profit.
 Here the doctor not directly receive the
bribe from the patient.

 Here the doctor was acting as a sales
manager and he have some target to
attain.
 If they attain the target they reward by the
hospital management.
 The hospital have lot of machinery, the
doctor prescribe the patient to take a
scanning or ECG etc,
 Through this the patients bill amount
increase and the hospital
 profit also increase.

 Example;
 If a patient reach the hospital with throat pain due to cold
but the doctor say he have some doubt about that
throat pain.
 He prescribe some medicine and send him for some high
costly check ups like scanning etc
 He also admitted in the hospital
 If the doctor say like this way the patient afraid and take
all the check ups, and he became a patient of serious
disease.
 The doctor exploit the patient.
 Through this the hospital get earning by renting room,
selling medicine , using machineries etc.
Bribery offer of pharmaceutical companies
 The doctor get more bribe from the
pharmaceutical companies or supplier of
medical equipment more than from the
patient.
 There are so many medicine are available
for a disease.
 The doctor is the only person who have the
right to prescribe the medicine.
 The doctor prescribe only the medicine from
he get more benefit.
 So the pharmaceutical companies give
money or gift for prescribing their product.
 Conclusion
 Bribery in hospital field seriously harmed the
public interest.
 We cannot say all doctors take bribery but
most of the doctors and hospital staff are
demanding bribes for their service.
 It is a serious problem faced in every
developing countries.
