SMARTPHONES AND ONLINE

PAYMENT

RESEARCH OBJECTIVES

To understand how smart phones

aggregate the online payment.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

A descriptive research to figure out the

current trends regarding smartphone use
was conducted.
A quantitative approach was adopted to
figure out statistically the current scenario.
Two hypotheses were formed stating that:
a.

b.

Currently phones are largely used in online

payments.
In the future the use of phones in online payment
will increase.

A simple random sampling method was adopted

and the questionnaire designed was uploaded on
Google Forms.
The data collected was tabulated and analyzed
using the appropriate statistical methods and
tools.

SECONDARY DATA

System launching in autumn available

to 18 million UK current account
holders from five banks in new shift
from card payments

ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION

This is a one sample test to test the first hypothesis that more people are
using phones to make online payment.
Firstly from the significance level we can conclude that there is a
significant difference.
Since the mean difference is positive we can say that the data shows that
less number of people are using the phones for online payment.
Therefore we reject H0 and accept H1 and conclude that there are
considerably lesser number of people who use phones to make online
payments.

This is a one way sample test conducted to test the second

hypothesis that the use of phones for online payment will
increase.
Here the significance level shows there is a considerable
difference.
But since the mean difference is less than 0.5, we can
accept the null hypothesis H0 and conclude that the use of
phones for online payments will increase if new features
are introduced.

FINDINGS

We first found that the use of smartphones is very high

among the respondents which seem to reflect the fact that
use of smartphones has increased by leaps and bounds.
Secondly we found that large number of people are
dissatisfied with the current online payment services
available.
From the survey, it was found that most people are
concerned about the security of the system.

SUGGESTIONS

It is our suggestion that a robust security system be developed

for online payment through smartphones as we have found
from our survey that many people are willing to embrace this
new technology.
Moreover, the application designed should be in such a way
that people are able to use the interface easily and set up their
accounts with ease.
There is lot of potential in this area and it has some possible
monetary benefits as well.
