HIJAAB

UNCOVERING THE SECRETS

What IS Hijaab?

A "hijab" or "ijb" (Arabic: ), is a

veil which covers the hair and neck.

It is worn by Muslim women particularly in

the presence of non-related adult males.

The Qur'an instructs both Muslim men and

women to dress in a modest way

The hijab not only includes the dress but

modest behaviour

Criticizims against Hijab

The burqa and niqab have become a topic

of much controversy and heated debate

Cited by many as an example of the

subjugation of women under Islamic law
Islamic values, dress code laws considered
by the western system as oppressive
Certain countries like France have even
banned women wearing hijab in public &
women veiling their face.

Women Oppressed under hijab????

DOES ISLAM ALONE

SAYS WOMEN
TO DRESS MODESTLY?
oAll

the relegions
including hinduism,
christianity, judaism
insist women to dress
modestly .
oIf

it is acceptable for a
Christian Nun to cover
her head and body for
religious reasons, then
why is it not for a Muslim
woman?

The HIJAB in other religions

Western lifestyle ,dress code propagated

across the world as the icon & roll model
of modern women.
The western society says women are
given personal liberty, gender equality
and sexual freedom
BUT such a society has miserably failed
in providing with secure environment
where women face harassments, rapes
increasingly

Criterias of the Hijab

For women, the extent of covering is to

cover the complete body except the face
and the hands up to the wrists .
The clothes worn should :
1.be loose and not reveal the figure.
2.not be transparent or translucent such
that one can see through them.
3.not be so glamorous as to attract the
opposite sex.
4.not resemble that of the opposite sex.

A Modern women wearing the hijaab

Why people fear hijab?

seeing women wearing the burqa is

strange for many people as minority of
Muslim women wear it, and it is new and
unfamiliar to many.
The fierce media campaign of fear
without having any knowledge of its
significance
prejudiced propaganda by political
parties capitalising on peoples
misunderstandings and fears in order to
make political gains

Why ISLAM
mandates the
hijab?
Islam

considers women special

and orders them to protect their
modesty and chastity
Hijab,

a guard against any assault,

equality with men, air of respect
and honor
Islam

strictly prohibits adultery,

and any such acts which may lead
to this e.g. Lustful gazing is also
been defined as unlawful.

The Al Quran says:

And say to the believing women that
they should lower their gaze and guard
their modesty; that they should not
display their beauty and ornaments
except what (must ordinarily) appear
thereof; that they should draw veils over
their bosoms and not display their beauty
except to their husbands, their fathers,
their husbands fathers, their sons...
[Al Quran
24:31]

Islam mandates the women to dress modestly

to prevent any unwanted attention
The hijab minimizes the chance of occurrence
of molestation or harassment of women
The Quran says:
O Prophet! Tell thy wives and daughters,
and the believing women that they should
cast their outer garments over their
persons(when abroad); that is most
convenient, that they should be known
(as such) and not molested. And Allah is
Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
[Al Quran
33:59]

A Statistic to note

In 2007, every 2 minutes, someone in the

U.S. is sexually assaulted, according to
U.S. Department of Justice's National
Crime Victimization Survey 2007
According to National Institute of Justice
& Centers for Disease Control &
Prevention, 17.7 million American women
have been victims of attempted or
completed rape in 1998
At least 47,000 women are raped in UK
alone every year

IS Hijab only for women?

People usually only discuss hijaab in the context

of women

The Quran mentions in Surah An Noor (The

light):
Say to the believing men that they
should lower their gaze and guard their
modesty: that will make for greater purity
for them: and Allah is well acquainted with
all that they do.
[Al Quran 24:30
]

Answering the allegations

Muslim women who choose to wear it do

so out of their own free will, preventing
them from practising their religion is what
is truly oppressive.
It is not male domination bcoz many
women voluntarily wear it, even though
some have no male relatives, or wear it
against their male relatives wishes.

Wearing a burqa does not stop a woman

from contributing to society or from
pursuing higher education
Aisha(may Allah be pleased with her),
the wife of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), is
one of the greatest Islamic scholars to
have ever lived. The fact that she wore
the burqa did not, in any way, hinder her
from becoming such a prominent scholar
or from teaching the men and women of
her society.

Male domination???

Women turning to hijab

Huge rise in no. of women embracing

Islam both east and west accepting its so
called oppressive nature.

More than 20,000 people in the US

convert to Islam every year and 75% are
women well educated mostly mid
20s ,wear their hijab.

CONCLUSION

ISLAM does not superiorise a particular sex.

Rather it places different roles and rights for
each over the other.
The hijab as a dress code empowers women by
elevating them beyond physical appearence
,focusing the attention of the society on their
abilities , away from their bodies.
ISLAM obliges men to view and treat women
with respect, prohibiting slaundering of her
reputation, exploitation of beauty &
objectification of her body.
