Quality
Standard for
Educational
TV Programs
At the Second World Summit on Television for Children
(Childrens Film & Television Foundation, 1998), some
program makers comments the Teletubbies program:
American supporter of the program argued that Teletubbies "are
based on the natural activities of the child audience, using
humor to address their specific cognitive, physical and social
needs. In addition, she claimed that the program reflects a
universal understanding of the developmental processes
experienced by children.
A Norwegian opponent of Teletubbies took the view, however,
that the program is not responding to childrens needs. She was
worried by the idea that children are being invited into an alienlooking world with some alien-looking baby-like creatures talking
a baby language.
